If you believe that there are better devices than what's approved state your case to the GPSSS community and the GPSTC but!!!!!!! Do the Tech stuff yourself and submit your results. Don't expect all these volunteers to do the hard work for you. Remember folks its for fun and fudging results is dumb. When people use non aproved stuff the results are questionable and maybe we should have another category for such results so they can play too .

I use a GT 31 the same one i have used since June 2010 , lf this is not an approved unit why did we use it at green island this year .

I think the suspicion arised because the results in gpstc show non-doppler, which is strange when you post directly from ka-72. Anyhow to keep any scrutinizing more credible and civilized it would be much better to go through the team captains and gpstc committee instead of posting anonymously on seabreeze.
Congratulation Conan, great mile ! having seen you sailing with a 6.3 in 40 knts at Prymbee I have no doubts it was legit.
Just put Waynes results in realspeed and Nm is correct , had several real good runs as well , Wayne well done
Since when does Primbee only blow 20 knots? It might average 15 -20 but.....

Your grasp of what speed is achievable in 20 knots of wind is mirrored in your lack of grammatical skills. 32 knots in 20 knots of wind is very possible. Flat water and the right angle means you should nearly double the wind speed.
Calm down people. I thought the same two things when I saw the original post:
1. Why is it Trackpoints ? (X)
2. It is very unusual for the best NM to be so close to the best 2 sec and 5X10 sec.
I could not find the track data on KA72 originally, because I am not as familiar with it as I could be if I used it more, so I asked for the file to be sent in.
Meantime, I had a second search when I saw the pic of it on KA72 and then I found it.
It is a perfectly legitimate run.
It checks out very well indeed and the unusual thing about it is that the best 2 second, 10 second and NM are all in the same one run!
This does not happen very often in most places but it is perfectly understandable at a place like Primbee on the squall of the day!
The original questioning of the post was quite legitimate in its substance, if not the way it was done. It is infinitely preferable to go through the team captain or the committee in such matters rather than start an inflammatory thread on this forum. We know how that always goes....... 
So to Conan: Please use the drop down box when posting from a GT-31 (or GW-52) and label your post as Doppler speeds (D) which is what they are.
And well done on a smoking Nautie! 
So now what !! Does Conan get a face to face apology from this on going fool. Or do you / we condone this behaviour ?
But all this could have been avoided if posting directly from ka72, that sets doppler automatically. It is easy to overlook when posting manually. But nothing better than a bit of bitching on a windless weekend . Thanks http418 !

What is doppler?
Conan this deserves an answer.
Basically the earlier GPSs calculated speed from the positional data, this lacks accuracy because the position is low definition it's only accurate to meters.
So later units use doppler, this is the same principle of radar speed guns, as you move relative to a frequency source, the frequency changes, it drops as you go away from it and increases as you approach. The faster you do this the more the effect. A common example is a police or ambulance siren, the note changes as the vehicle passes you, and changes from approaching to departing.
That's why there's the d and t options on the site, it denotes whether you're using an old legacy unit that can overstate your numbers by 2 knots or so, or a newer unit that is potentially more accurate.
So for the GT31 you should select the "d" option on your posts. (unless your software only calculates in trackpoints, but then you should be using better software).
The only possible exception is distance, some of the software uses the trackpoint info and others the doppler data to do this.
OH YES, big congrats on that NM!
Must admit I thought you must have got the gust of the day to get a NM so close to the 2s, and from everybody else's comments about that day's sailing you obviously did.
Hi Rexi, I think Conan posted manually and then also posted the file on ka72, because from ka72, when you select post to gpstc you will find that it sets the Doppler automatically. My comments were ironic, my position is that this should have been handled through the captains...
