crazy day here in wa. 60knot wind at rottnest, 45knots on the swan and 40knot gusts down in mandurah. Looks gusty as ever with horizontal rain happening and hail forecast. It will be interesting to see who was crazy enough to get out there. Not me. Think i might wait for summer if all the fronts are going to be like this.
Holy smokes. It's turned everything upside down!
That's WA wind for you!
Well Fangy and I went for a look, we did get out of the house, but didn't take long to get back in.
Yep turned it upside down here, another one down around the corner. Anyone know how to get an iphone photo onto here the right way up straight from the phone?. I can only do it via a pc to rotate the image. Looks the right way up on the phone. Did anyone brave it today? Strop or slowy?
I sailed out from pelican point at 12ish in slightly off shore conditions. Quickly cranked up to 30-35 knot wind just past the boats. Aimed out towards lucky bay/Melville but found the chop was straight on the nose and quite aggressive. Quite overpowered with 5.0 wave sail and 94 kode, but hey if you're there you have to get wet! After a short sail returning to the very quiet car park we were left wondering if "that tree was lying on the floor before we went sailing?"
Water was level with the carpark with the boat ramp only just visible.
Thats crazy getting on a land yacht in that wind. Is there still water in the lake and is it deep enough to sail. Is it too salty?
The lake is free of water, the salt is smooth as new ashphelt. No salt flicking up, and yes, it is salty. It's a salt lake. No dust either, excellent visibility too.
Only a few crazys up here go storm chasing across the lake.
Only when you break free of the constraints and limitations of water sailing and blast
at 60 knots will you come to a new understanding in what wind can do on a 1.5 m sail.
My blokart is faster then my Scania truck which is governed to 100kph.
Come up and have a go.
I would love to have a go. My grand dad was one of the early ones to have a go on lake lefroy. Might try a light wind day first.
I just spoke to mum and she doesnt have photos but thinks the family gave some movie film to the state archives. I will try to see if i can get a copy of it. Dad reckons there was a much earlier land yacht up there made out of an old horse wagon. He recons there was a photo in an early western mining journal, west miner,. Keep up the high speeds. Happy sailing
