This weekend the NSW Raceboard Series, sponsored by Starboard, Severne and WSS Boards kicks off again at Dobroyd Aquatic Club.

The series entry fee stays the same for another year at $160 for adults (this includes the States at Marmong) or $80 for youth (U20). You can join individual one-day events for $35 or two-day events for $70 (again youth rate is half price). However, please note Round 3 at Jervis Bay will be part of the Sand and Sea Festival, andwill be charged separatelythrough their website. The cost for this weekend will be $95, on top of the $160 for the series.

Go to www.windsurfingnsw.com/join/ to enter the series or an event. The NOR and SIs are available here.

The NSW Raceboard Series Calendar 2023-34 looks like this.

HEAT DATE LOCATION
1 23/9/23 DAC
2 14/10/22 Palm Beach Sailing Club
3 28-29/10/23 Jervis Bay (Charged separately)
4 (States) 18-19/11/23 Marmong
5 2/3/24 St George
6 6/4/24 Illawarra Yacht Club

We plan to kick off the new year with a fun relay racing event atSaratogaSailing Club. It's looking like it will be the 26th and 27th January, but we'll confirm that when we know the score. This event won't form part of the point score, but will hopefully raise skill levels and participation across the board, but particularly for our developing Raceboarders.

Also, save the date for the Raceboard Nationals at Jervis Bay Sailing Club. Rego will be on Monday 18/3/24, with racing from Tuesday 19/3/24 to Friday 22/3/24.

A great day at DAC. The sun came out and the wind even went NE! Challenging racing as always on Iron Cove, picking the pressure and the lifts consistently was tough with many changes going on in the mid fleet.

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Palm Beach this Saturday 14th October for Round 2 of the NSW Raceboard Series.

We are aiming for racing to start at 1230, with briefing at 1145.

Don't be put off by the fact it's the same day as the Referendum. You can vote beforehand, so don't let that be an excuse to not sail. www.aec.gov.au/referendums/voting.htm#start

Go to www.windsurfingnsw.com/join/ to enter the series or an event. The gates will be open from 11am. There is an overflow area that we can use and can accommodate 30 cars close to the rigging area. There will be a parking marshal to point people into the free parking area otherwise its about $35 per day (for Council parking.). There is alternative parking outside of Woorak with those with a Northern Beaches Parking sticker.

We will probably have 4 races back-to-back, so it would be a good idea to take drinks and snacks out on the water. You can leave water bottles on the club support vessels. The Sailing club is not serving food so it's recommended that participants bring all their necessities for the day (lunch /water /sunscreen). There is also a small cafe "Greedy Goat" about 100 m away which is good for eat in or take away.

For those who want to kick on, Club Palm Beach (formerly the Palm Beach RSL) is nearby for Fish n Chips or a Chicken Parmy after sailing. clubpalmbeach.com.au/ Bistro hours 11:30am - 8:30pm so we should be able to get food after racing, whenever we finish.

There'll be more details very shortly about how to register for the event at Jervis Bay on the weekend of 28th and 29th of this month. There are lots of family activities available as part of the Sand and Sea Festival, so make it a family get-away!

A lovely sparkly day at Palm Beach yesterday! The wind wasn't perfect but the Palm Beach Sailing Club crew did a great job of getting 4 races in for us when we could have spent a lot of time just hanging around waiting for things to settle which didn't really happen. The winds swung from NW to NE from 0 to the odd planing gust, so we all had to be on our toes. There was a few quick dips throughout the fleet but the water was nice and refreshing.

The next round is at another prime location, Collingwood Beach, Jervis Bay in 2 weeks on Oct 28 & 29. It is being run in conjunction with the Sand and Sea festival at Husskison so there is plenty of family entertainment available. It is a separate entry to the Series see below.

Great sailing at Jervis Bay. It was a bit different than the original plan. Due to the lack of entries across all wind sports (Windsurfing, Kites and Wingding) Sand and Sea decided it was not viable to host any wind events. With accommodation booked and a good NE forecast we decided we could still get in some great Raceboard racing. Our numbers were down, but on Saturday in 12-15kn we held 3 great races. It was nice to have some gentle waves to enjoy on the runs! The shore break at Collingwood beach was a bit challenging, so with more wind forecast for Sunday we decided to move to Sanctuary Point. We got another 3 races in, in a building NEster. We started in 8-10kn and finished the last race with about 18kn. The flat water allowed everyone to get out and have a good sail. Many thanks to Greg McInnes for stepping in as our race officer and DAC for loaning us a RIB at short notice so we could set the marks, everyone chipped in to make it all happen, a good weekend away.

A glorious day for Windsurfing at Marmong Point Sailing Club. The wind was NE it took a little while to come in so the first 2 races were a bit light and variable. Lots of pumping a good workout so we took a lunch break and then the wind was in at 13 - 17 kn good planing conditions. Throughout the fleet it is tight with a number of pairs of competitors only separated by one point.

A great weekend at Marmong Point Sailing Club. Another great day's racing. The wind took a little longer to come in than expected but we got in 5 planing races. Ian and Barry with their helpers ran a great regatta for us, a great atmosphere especially with musical director Tibor!

Congratulations to Jimmy Levy taking out the State championship for a fourth year in a row. He had to work at it finishing only 1 point ahead of Richie Reynolds with Adam Hampton in rounding out the podium.

Gusty Southerly saw a lot of people rig small, but the wind dropped out during race 1 but picked up again during race 2 and a bit more for Race 3. A good day for the lightweights! with Richie and Allan sharing the wins and Steve getting getting in the mix as well.

Having just had the nationals last week everyone will be in good form for the final round and presentation celebrations. The Series points so far:

Finally we had the last round of the series at DAC yesterday. It was a super-gusty Southerly 8 - 28kn seeing everyone dropping at least one sail size and still many in the fleet making some big splashes. We got some good speeds though, with over 24kn being recorded. We had three heats with three different heat winners.

As it was the end of the series we also had the final results presentation. Congratulations to Richie, Allan and Lissa for their podium results. Thanks to all who participated, looking forward to seeing everyone on the water again next season.

PETER LOFT MARATHON at BYRA this Sunday. Noon start
AUS-1977 registered.

HUGE THANK YOU to TOM PLODR!
Thank you, thank you Tom for gifting your unrequired mast track mechano. The hard part was refurbishing my track.
Jamming in internal wooden supports, and with careful tweaking (bending, hammering, squeezing with vice & G clamps) I eventually achieved useable straightness in the critical directions, and now have a lockable & freely sliding mast track

I'm hedging my bets as to choice of sailboard class; WLT or RB (9.5 or 8.5 or 7.8); or perhaps WLT with 7.8 (within the raceboard category)
Hopefully I wont still be procrastinating when the gun goes!

The wind component of the weather forecast has been very encouraging, but the last few days the averages have mostly been a lot less than forecast, but with some rather high gusts.
For the 'real time' wind & direction recordings on race day > www.pittwaterweather.com and click on Scotland Is (very reliable readings in SSW to SSE) and also Stokes Point (however it is flat lining occasionally), it's good for SWest breeze, but being near the southern entrance to Careel Bay can be shielded from the SEast breeze, or reads as an Easterly wind when the SE funnels out of the bay.

Look forward to seeing you all on Sunday, rain, hail, or shine [I said that last year when the weather looked foul, and got roasted in a full steamer!]

Hi Steve, happy to help but use it carefully as it's a Starboard raceboard mast track part so it has a short mean time between failures. I'd take the raceboard, it's faster than the WLT & footstraps & a mast track make it more enjoyable.
