Bull****, bull****, bull****.

I don't mind the reading being a little bit out, like 20% or so, but the above is absolute ****ing bull****. There's not even a semblance of truth in it. From 5pm to 6pm it was 5-15 knots, and 90% of the time 5-10. Hell, I had to pump my way back to shore at around 6pm. When I came in I checked the graphs and it said 20+. It was a mill pond.

It was the same last Friday.

What the hell is wrong with the wind meter at the airport?

I have the same opinion about the Syd harbour graph as well.

The Sydney Ports Corp has a wind gauge at Molineux Point, though I think it can be a little sheltered in a NEly, but pretty accurate in a Southerly. http://wavewindtide.sydneyports.com.au/wave/weather_original.asp
The Sydney Harbour reading is at Chowder bay and the wind does tend to funnel down there a lot and I have noticed it is up to 10 knots winder in the channel than it is in the Sound or in North Harbour, so yep another false reading.

It took me an hour to get through the traffic at 4 pm but on looking at the graph before I left I thought it would be worth it. I went home just before 6pm, gear unpacked, cos it was just as you said, a mill pond. On the way home I checked the wind again, it looked pretty good from the car, & thought I had blown it by leaving. Where on earth are they taking the readings?? ... It was certainly not getting on the water. On Sunday an unforecast southerly blew up at 2pm, which I was lucky to get along with a only few others....they are getting it wrong more often that right so far this season. :-(

It's hard to see what can go wrong with an anemometer other than completely stop, intermittently go on and off or something else that is obviously not like real wind. That looks like real wind. Is the correct data being automatically accessed? What was the wind on the 13th October, the 31st 2013? Then again Sea breezes can lift. We often see white caps 1 km out and not much on the beach. Wind doesn't disappear, it's got to go somewhere, left, right, up.....can't go down. Unless the wrong data is accessed I think the wind has jumped Kyeemah, gone up and over. Missing the surface of the water but clipping the airport anemometer. Kurnell got wind, Sydney Harbour also. We can get a lot more sea breeze at Primbee/Kanahooka sometimes, jumps over the beach and comes down inland. Believe your instruments.

ps. It's on the runway, 6 metres high. www.bom.gov.au/catalogue/observations/nsw-coastal-stations.shtml

yes it is frustrating. Ive had it were I'm bring blown off the ladder at Edgecliff and then i race to the water and theres nothing. The city seems to block a lot off wind . I have been thinking that somewhere further up the georges river would work in a westerly & as i was working there & just happened to have my boards in I had a sail at Illowong pretty narrow & a few mored boats but the wind was screaming down the river there but not much further down there was nothing .
Como bay & out in the wider part of the river seems to pick up a bit of wind also seems to funnel down there in eastily .
I see jordan spring sign offering lake side living i have to go check this lake out if its big enough & deep enough being out west & on the plain it would really get the westerlys so it should be good . The only problem i foresee is the difference between what i consider a lake & that of a real-estate agent . After all a renovators delight was what i was shown once & i swear the house should have been condemned. Like the unit at manly that had water views & it did if you stood on the toilet You could see a small patch off water over the roof of the units next door so Im not holding out much hope.

The escarpment of the lower Blue Mountains seems to block alot of wind, too. Or at least smooth flow. Even in Oakhurst, you perhaps can notice this?

The weather station for BoM is at the Sydney International Regatta Centre.
One has to pay to use the (practice) lake for boating there in daylight hours, and the lake and grounds are closed for many days either side of setting-up for a concert (Def1Qon) or sporting event (Nepean Triathlon). Friendly staff/rangers.

Renovators delight? Jordan Springs is all new 3 or 4 bedroom homes, with another low ridge in Cranebrook just opposite further blocking any cooling westerly winds. They are of more space than undulating Glenmore Park.

Of traffic, between nearby Andrews Rd and the M4 at Jamisontown is 11 sets of traffic lights and at least two large roundabouts - over a flat distance of 6km. Plus, Castlereagh Rd flooded under the rail bridge at Penrith on Wednesday - 2nd time in 3 weeks.

Sorry for continuing with the thread drift, EvlPanda.
