Hi Everyone, I'm from Canada and I'm new to this forum. I'm coming to Byron Bay in March and was hoping to windsurf at Flat Rock while I'm there. It looks like an amazing place, will there be any wind that time of year? Is there a place around to rent windsurfing gear?
My cousin lived in Byron but passed away a few years ago. We used to talk about sailing there together but unfortunately we never got that chance. I really hope I can get a few sessions in while I'm there. Any info about the place would be great, cheers.

I'm trying to figure out the forecast for Flat Rock. Is Ballina the most accurate spot? I'm using iwindsurf is this a good forecast for Flat Rock, what's the best wind direction?

Thanks for the reply ChopSuey! I sure hope we get some wind while I'm there, I would love to sail there.

You probably won't get northerlies in March but you never know. The best chance would be a good southerly. Sail on the north side of flat rock. Ballina is a good forecast to read as pointed out. The cape byron weather station is probably the most accurate but about 5-10 knots greater than the water strength as its on top of a big hill.
See you there if it turns on!

Thanks, a good southerly would be great! That would be the tack I'm used to anyways. Looks like it's windy there now.
Not sure if any of you knew my cousin, Andrew Hauserman (Hausey), he passed away in July of 2016. He kited a lot the last few years but was a great windsurfer back in the day. Anyways it's going to be a bitter sweet trip not being able to sail with him but I hope to sail in some of the spots he talked about often. Hope to see you guys out there.

Looks like it's blowing SE now, did anyone sail today? Forecast is showing wind most of the week. I'll be there next Thursday, can't wait!
