Marmong Point Sailing Club is holding our annual Midwinter Regatta on Saturday 18th July. The club is located on George St, Marmong Point on the northwestern corner of Lake Macquarie.
Racing will be either formula or slalom/GPS depending on wind strength. Marmong is ideally suited to take advantage of the prevailing winter Westerly or Southerly winds. Of course there will be the famous Marmong BBQ with drinks and presentation at the end of the days racing.
More details will be posted closer to the date, but put 18th July in your diary now. Look forward to seeing lots of you there on the day.
Better check my big sails out haven't used them for ages
Be good to sail again haven't sailed since being back from green island
Forecast for Saturday looking like a beautiful southerly. As Byron said we will do slalom if windy enough, otherwise will be Formula.
Here are few shots to remind you how well Marmong works in a southerly. See you Saturday!
Hey guys. I'm working in Gosford for the next fortnight, so I was thinking about driving up early from Melbourne. I'd love to get a few more details.
1. What time does the sailing start? Just trying to work out when I'd need to leave Melbourne...
2. Can anyone suggest somewhere (budget) to stay Fri/Sat/Sun?
3. What's likely wind range? Should I bring formula gear? Where can I keep an eye on the forecast?
4. Anything else I should know?
Dude I would leave Melbourne first thing Friday morning before any traffic and I would stay north of Sydney Friday night to miss Sydney traffic in the morning. If you can make it to Toronto stay there otherwise Gosford.
Definitely take formula. There are some formula guys on the central coast and you are here for two weeks.
A lot of guys will drive up from Sydney Saturday morning so if you get tired just stop in Sydney. its not a hard drive syd to marmong
Gday everyone, here are some more details for the day.
Based on the forecast the wind should be best during the morning.
- Registration - 10am
- Briefing - 10:30am
- First Possible Race - 11am

Nice one James.
Piecing together parts today at the shop to make sure I'm not missing anything as it's been a while!

Thanks, JustinL. Locked in. Looking forward to meeting everyone. I'm going to be a bit rusty too...
Glad to hear plenty of people are planning to be here Saturday. Don't forget to pack both slalom and formula gear if you can fit it in.
Entry fee is $20 and will be collected at Rego on Saturday morning.
The shoreline at Marmong still has some damage from the April storms, and Lake Mac council has barricaded off the damaged section (shown below). Fortunately there is still plenty of room for parking, but please try not to park right near the club to leave space for everyone to rig. You can also access the water on the south side of the club, so feel free to park up there as well.
Looking windy huh? Can't wait.....
I have never done Slalom at Marmong Point. Is it possible to do in SW or a bit too gusty from that direction?
Bringing both Slalom and Formula, so guaranteed to get some good TOW...
Prediction south and the best direction there is you can start from the shore
We have done some of the best slalom racing there
Bring every thing you don't know what it's going to do
I will be sailing tomorrow
Happy days my footy game has been cancelled (it's snowing in Bowral) I am there with bells on!
Woo hoo or is it yewwww!

Might need chains to get out of Bowral..
4 races completed now stuffed after doing 140km speed sail yesterday.
Great turn out for middle of winter. Terrific to see Sam and Christian showing us the way. Really good and close racing.
Followed by slow cooked soup from Rachel and James, cooking whilst we were out sailing all day. Yum Yum Yum.
Big thanks to Neville for running the racing on the boat in cold conditions.
Great day now time to drink beer.
Classic Mid-winters regatta. Ended up being Formula as too off-shore for Slalom.
Great to see such a good turn out. About 20 guys?
Really enjoyed the racing... Congrats to DEN-26 Christian Justesen and AUS-3 Sam Parker on the top 2 spots...
Not sure about the other positions as had to shoot off before the racing finished...
Thanks Marmong and especially Neville out in the start boat and the Soup maker. What champs..
I think those results may be a little generous to me
I did a little write up here www.windsurfingreligion.com/blog
Hi Sam, The race I quit to go re rig must have been cancelled? Not sure maybe I was in parallel universe.
Race one says I came second beating Christian (which I reckon I would remember ). Pretty sure I came in after Rick Murray.
Really enjoy the tactical day even if it was cold nice soup had my $20 value right there.
Gday everyone, just an update to the results. Thanks to everyone for their feedback.
If you don't already have sail numbers or some kind of markings on your sail, please get something organised before the first NSW Series regatta in October, as its really hard for the race crew to score you if they don't know who you are.
Cheers
James
