I had an interesting chat to a long time windsurfer, racer, gps sailor

He said although a handful of great sailors from NSW have broken 40kts in NSW

He said his not sure if anyone has actual broken 40kts in NSW as there first time,

eg, people have not been able to reach forty purely by sailing in NSW, and no one has ever broken 40 in NSW as there first time, they have had to go out of state to break it first,

Is this true, has anyone broken 40kts in NSW as there first time over 40?

Does anyone know what the fastest speed in NSW waters is?

Ha, just doing a little research myself

I think Craig Hammond is the only person to break 40 for the first time in NSW

It was a pb, 40.10, I think he did it at Illawarra back when him and Leo were going for it

Well done Craig, I think your the only person in the universe that has done that..................

Edit, Craig may have been the first, MT of Illawarra speedstars may have broken 40 for himself for the first time sailing in NSW as well

Well done MT

I think Nathan Browness broke 40 at foreshore drive for the first time breaking 40 for himself

Well done Nathan Browness

as far GPSTC data is concerned, 10 nsw sailors have broken forty, with Sam Parker the fastest at 46.87 kts, achieved at Sandy pt

does anyone know what the fastest speed on nsw is?

And where it was done?

Well done to all that have broken 40, and good luck to all that are still working towards it,

EDIT, the fastest speed sailed in NSW was by LEO, 42.72kts at Primbee

Well done LEO, the fastest anyone has sailed on NSW waters

In summary

10 hell men from NSW have broken 40kts

3 managed to break forty for the first time for themselves on NSW waters

the first sailor to sail 40kts for there first time in NSW is Craig Hammond

the fastest speed on NSW waters is 42.72, achieved at Primbee, by LEO

the fastest anybody from NSW has sailed is Sam Parker doing 46.87kts achieved sailing down at sandy pt

Well I guess that's that

I dont know who was the first person to actually sail 40kts on NSW waters, I'm thinking Sam Parker probably

l think all the above sailors mention could go faster if NSW had stronger wind the strongest by far world be a southley then a black north easter .Once in a blue moon . they come a long.

I don't see many black nor easters pushing past forty, southerlies can get strong,

but I think your strongest wind is from the west, a bit of north, a bit of south, but predominately from the west

Plenty of westerlies regularly push past 40 upto 50kts

Most of the above sailors have gone faster, just not on NSW waters, and most had to leave the state to break forty initially,

Budgey, Foreshore Drive, Primbee, Harrington, 40 has been done on those bodies of water

I'm not sure, but I also think 40 has been done narra lakes, taren pt

I'm not sure who was really the first sailor to break 40 on NSW waters, or where they did it.

I think when/if we get some weed back at Primbee (not this year) we'll see some more guys cracking 40 in NSW before too long. Between the Speedsters, Gustbusters and Cockroaches there are a few guys around that 38-39 mark who have a the ability and the kit to do it in the right conditions. I know I'm pushing to do but haven't managed to get there this winter, so far. Well done to those who have done it and good luck to everyone pushing to get there!

They are great teams STU777,

but lets not forget about Double Demerits, great looking team

Lake Macquaire, great team, a few guys have broken 40, a few close to it

And please, lets not forget this months highest ranked NSW team, the magnificent mid north central coast maurders

No one has broken forty on that team, but there is genuinely a dozen or so working towards it, some from up north are real close, same with at the central coast,

The thread is just to celebrate all the great sailors from NSW that have worked hard and broken forty

The thread is also to celebrate all those who genuinely want to achieve this, good luck

It can be done, at a variety of locations as some of the great NSW GPS sailors have proven

Sorry Milsy I didn't mean to leave anyone out. I'm only commenting what's happening at our local speed strip. I know there are plenty of great sailors and teams in NSW, and more than one spot to crack 40. Go for it people!

Hey, thanks Sam

Yeah, if your talking history of speed in NSW, Rick Murrary has been, still is, an amazing sailor, truly dedicated to going fast

I welcome the 11th Hellman to the list, Grant "Larko" Larkin

A champion sailor from the northern beaches

He has sailed into glory with a 40.38 at Budgey Lake today

Congrats Larko,

Ummmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, it looks like my initial summary is not correct

11 Hellman from the Priemer State over 40kts

The first to break forty on NSW waters, Sam Parker, 2006

The fastest speed on NSW waters, Sam Parker, 43.6kts

The fastest NSW sailor has ever gone.........Sam Parker, 46.7kts at Sandy Pt Vic,

at this stage, Craig Hammond is the first to break forty for himself on NSW waters,

Sam, Rick, I'm not sure, Did you guys go out of state for your first time, hehe, possibly a mountain, hehe,
No, seriously, I'm not sure if these two living legends broke forty for themselves on NSW waters, or if they had to go out of state to break forty initially

thank you to everybody for your information

Good luck to all the GPS sailors

Wow PUBMENACE just posted that he did exactly the same thing, but he has now deleted his post.
I wonder if WOOD DUCK will claim he did 41.5 next.

You might be fast but you're kinda slow.

Well, then I think Rick Murrary is not just the champion of NSW Racing, the champion of GPS sailing in NSW, the champion of seabreeze forums.....

He is the first man to crack forty for themselves exclusively on NSW waters, making him the one the greatest NSW GPS sailors of all time!!!!!

Congratulations to Rick Murrary,

NSW GPS sailors alike thank Rick Murrary for his continual inspiration, dedication and commitment to speed

Rick Murrary currently holds the top speed record at many of NSW speed spots, and really doesn't look like slowing down

Good luck for the future

The Taswegians keep a catalogue of spot records around the state (35kts+ qualifies for the list)

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/Tasmania/New-Spot-Record-Derwent-River-above-Tasman-Bridge/
With the research you guys have already done you could do the same
