Link , Dazza and I stumbled apon this sweet little speed channel on our way home from birubi on sat avo. We were lucky to see it and then decided to go on a little mission and try and sail it. Had to cross a few fields and gates and passed lots of cows. Turns out to be wild. So flat and 30knots. Stoked.
Will be looking hit it again soon
I'll be interested if anyone else has sailed it.
Yea it's right on the freeway at hexam. Hunter river. Works in a westerly. There was no public acess. We parked on the side of the free way and jumped a few padlock gates.
I recon there would be other places of the river that would work in a few different directions.
I checked it last year & took a short vid of it at the terrace, between the bridge & a park a km or so south. there was
a boat ramp at south end of park but the whole length of the southern bank is a rock boulder wall, no chance of getting
in or out along there. northern bank was perfect grassy or mud easy in & out.
The paddocks near the hexham bridge would be private land.
some of ash island is private & some not wounder if there is something in there.
Just west of Hexham bridge , we've been talking about sailing there for ages , going to have to try it

we just rocked off strait onto our boards without getting wet. it was kinda surreal how easy it was to get on the water.
coming in was a little tricky. link and dazza climbed over the rocks to get out but i climbed up a mudbank which was really easy but about 200m up stream. still workable thou. just a big walk

yea just west of the bridge. you have got to try it. we could not believe how flat it was. i only wish we got pics of us sailing. we were joust 2 keen to get on the water.
is was made all the more fun as its kinda a bit of adventure try to get over to the river. we parked in a tiny overgrown drive way which worked well.
I'm keen to get back there in the next big westerly
did you get any gps speeds
Nar don't have any GPS gear to record with.
when any1 is trying there next time im down for taking pics since i carnt sail yet, just let me know.
The rocks in the pics are diff to the boulders down at the terrace.
Was it heaps gusty or pretty constant, how long were the runs before u were out of the
wind.

It was a westerly so gusty as but because the water was so flat wasn't a problem.
Runs were around the 400m mark. So quite long. We might have just lucked out with the wind direction. I only had my 5.5 and my wave board so not ideal gear but a few gusts I was fully lit. Wishing to be on a 4.5.
