Rus,

you have missed your calling. Become a photographer!

They are taking over Canton Beach. It looks like there is a kiting school there with lots of beginners. I don't mind beginners kiting around the launch area close to shore. However its getting to be a bit of a worry with more experienced kiters continually kiting less than 10 meters from shore. Their lines are long and sometimes they passed very close as I was bogging along in light winds. Its a big area there, over 2 kms long and close to 300 meters wide of waist deep water, let alone the huge lake. However some kiters persist is kiting around a 200 meter strip in front of the park we all use.

The wind was up and down after you left, with the emphasis on down. I only had a few planning runs.

Here are some pictures of the windsurfing at Canton today. Two days of half decent wind in a row, not bad.

Great pics both days. Well done mate. Keep it up while you are getting better.

Karl is right. Pity about there being a few too many kiters there.

I think there was one or two of them who knew what they were doing, but there were a couple that were a nuisance bordering on being dangerous especially when they crashed and or dropped their kites. With so many sailboarders there (over 20) it was becoming a little hairy. I came very close to cleaning one up on my last run as I had no idea where he was trying to go (maybe he didn't either) so had to get off the gas and luff up higher than him to avoid a collision. (If it matters, I was on starboard at the time).

I was lucky - they were all on the shore waiting ( for wind? or lesson time) when I was out..

Good photos James, are they done via GoPro or some other waterproof camera. Bad luck with the car 2035. I had my own bit of bad luck on Sunday. Seems like every time I go to Canton Beach something goes wrong. We managed three weeks in South Australia without incident, besides a close encounter with a tiger snake.

Nice photos James, good work.

I did not realise that you were actually taking these from in the water, guess I should pay more attention.

I think I was probably too busy looking out for stray kiters......lol.

Ah James, you have the essence of a great photographer. Get right close to the action, carefully frame the photo, adjust the light & focus and above all make sure I am in it. Well done.

Top shots. As canton is 3 streets from me I have no problems with kites. Sitting on the shore with mark and ray before the wind came up at 1pm to a respectable level I noticed the novice kiters were only working in an area around 200-300 meters and on the shore-bank. When we got out, I had some top races with the kiters which I usually play with on the water at Canton and Budgewoi lake at Halakulani and we have a ball. I had a ball, they had a ball and that's what it's all about. Looking forward to another good day with mates on the water.

Hi Bill,

I too enjoy sailing with kiters. When on the same tack they are great to have drag races with. The first time I sailed with a kiter was at the Pittwater side of Palm Beach, it was fun. I've shared a few photos Carol has taken with them at Canton Beach. I don't have an issue with beginner kiters either. They need to learn somewhere and Canton Beach is as good a place as any. However it gets to be a bit annoying when floundering in a lull, trying to get upwind and a kiter goes really close. Perhaps its annoyance on my part, having rigged too small and the kiter scooting by.

Its a pity last weekend looks like it was the last windy weekend for a while. Its now cooling down since the rain has gone so perhaps we will start getting westerlies if we don't get those blocking highs like one we are getting right now. Hopefully they clear away and we start getting some fronts coming through.

'Old' Pete almost got creamed by a beginners kite last sail. Someone said the kite crashed and missed him by a metre. The lady was apologetic .

Not by a metre but by 5 metres Sue.

Greg K and I saw the whole thing and yes it was bloody close and unexpected. If it hit him he would have been flattened.

In her defence she did apologise and then promptly packed up.

Pete was unusually quiet after this close call.

Wasn't good Wayno , I **** myself for poor Pete , scarey situation and shows the potential
For horrific injuries , we have to all be very wary of what is going on around us

Old Pete reminds me of Gandolf
Windsurfing is the best... As long as there's wind???
I reckon there's plenty of room for everyone to enjoy the great spots we've got , look at me, I rarely have much control going on and I haven't run into anyone? Hope everyone gets great wind soon!!!!
