Hi Guys,

I don't want to jinx it but it looks like Sunday is lining up to be a good north easter day. Thinking of heading down to Gerroa, is anyone else heading down?

How windy can we expect it to be there?

Going to be driving down from Sydney.

Ed,
NSWWA is at Ballina so it might keep the crowds away. Could be 20 knots. Might be a little offshore (NNE).

Further north, Corrimal etc could be worth a look.

Hey Ed we should see 20 knots. Small surf though, maybe Wanda would be better for waves.
maybe the red thumbs from the superstitious?

Dude. The rule is two days. And you never tell anyone where you are going. it's basic, superstitious science.

It's going to be on!! Our first decent NE'r of the season. Can't wait.

EDIT: I surf Corrimal all the time, but never seen anyone windsurfing there... I've often wondered why though. It'd be great in a NE'r.

Thats one red thumb from me and proud to say so. Just saying "I don't want to jinx" is an instant Jinx. Seabreeze Jinx us all the time. Some of our strongest winds in 2012 and 13 were never forecasted or jinxed. Lets just say "If its windy we are going sailing"................................. At Budge!!!

Ahh, the descent into superstition. Next thing you know, you will have a new religion.

If only we could influence the wind. If someone was prepared to stay at home and mow the lawn instead of going sailing, perhaps that would be enough? How 'bout it mehore? Is that better?

2 x 9am wind strength + 60 degrees + 6 hours = 20-25 NE @ 3pm.
Shame about the tide.

I used to windsurf at east corrimal (easties) back in the mid nineties. Best spot north of wollongong in a NE.

I don't get what the low tide has to do with anything? Might have to wade another couple of meters out from the shore to clear ya fin, but other than that, what's it matter?

Anyhooo... it blowing 20kts and I'm out of here :)

Maybe not so important at open water spot like botany, but tide plays a part in chop, flatness ect, direction of wind too the flow of the tide, especially in more river mouth situations, plays a part at various weed banks and speed strips

I am so bloody happy today at the airport...after learning windsurfing since january this year.. I went planing the first time with both straps on for a period of time with no catapult due to flat (not so flat) water, in my 55 sail and 165l board...bloody fast... I am quite tired because I have to bent my knees on both legs for the little chop.

Getting in the rear footstrap is not difficult at all after reading some advice in this forum...get to the rear footatraps quick and I will be fine..

First weekend for me to have NW ..

Until the water starts to get choppy when the wind is over 20 knots....I call it a day..

Learning water start now..a mate has given me some useful advice of how to lift the rig up..they are bloody heavy.. have ordered a easy water starter to float the clew after today to make my life easier..

Talked to a number of mates...learn a lot today...

Don't like the water ski as they create more chops on the water..

This isn't a constructive comment but just so you know there is a light at the end of the tunnel - the rig should always lift out the water like a feather, or at least it will after years of practice!

Essentially you are using the wind to lift the rig not your strength.

Stoked to read about your progression!

Ben there are a lot of days the wind will be over 20 knts , this mite sound stupid to travel 2+hrs from botany, if you make the trip to sanctuary point you will be sailing in 30knts comfortably , it's the best learning spot on the east coat of n,s,w,, you mite need to travel 5hrs round trip but by the end of the season you would have progressed 10 fold COMPARED to sailing on botany

ok the red thumbs are gone but I need to explain for the guys benefits who don't know this area , as you know if the wind is honkin 30knts + its the end of the day for begginers , unless you can find a protected area with shallow water
the beginning of this video the wind is off shore n/east with knee deep water , for some reason the n/east will get in there even though it's protected and off shore , if the wind was 30knts at sanctuary pt it would be 15+ at prentice ave , if the beginner gets into trouble they will get blown over to the s/w side and have to walk back
the second part of the video is sailing from prentice ave to sanctuary point in a 25knt+ southerly where there is more shallow water,
we have guys traveling from the act ,Wollongong and Sydney on big n/east days

Only lazy ones that don't want to water start!

Botany is a good noreaster is a pretty good place too. You can surf the swell that gets in at Kyeemagh. I have had some great days there. You can't stand up though, so not such a good place for early beginners that need that reassurance. Its also more difficult to change rigs with the paths that are there now.

The other merits of sanctuary point are the takeaway shop up round the corner and the hot showers.
As well as friendly locals always happy to give a helping hand with gear and sailing tips

I'll be bringing it for sure mate. My harness size is a large so you're welcome to throw your cam on and give it a go. I'm looking at the forecast and I'm getting excited. If I can get out on my tabou 3S I'll be completely stoked.
