Hi All,
I'm heading upto to Shoal Bay over the Christmas holidays and have heard there are some great spots up that way. Any suggestions on a good place to sail & rig up etc, thanks Scott.
I sailed there last summer (28 Dec - Jan 2) when I was first starting out and it was great. Would love to be going back this summer to play on the swell in the middle of the bay instead of being s#$t scared of it like I was last year.....
Yeh iwas out there last week on my original windsurfer, was too afraid to be out there on my short board
Yep.
Area as indicated.
We also sailed from the Boulevarde in photo across to other side & back for hours
Great spot
I had a sail at Fingal Bay just on the south side of Port Stephens in August. Sailed a S-SE which blew straight through the entrance to the bay. Had a nice cross shore launch at the SLSC which took me on a reach along the northern part of the bay to the Fingal Spit.
Didn't know anything about the area. But was traveling down the coast and was in the right place at the right time. Had a really nice sail.
Hi All,
Thanks for your feedback. I'll definately give Fingal Bay a go as it is just a stones throw away from where i will be staying and will do a day trip over to Hawks Nest depending on the wind.
Are there any spots, other than Fingal Bay, that work in a southerly around Port Stephens?
Hawks Nest is unsailable in a southerly and the Nelson Bay area would be in the wind shadow.
There are probably many of us going up there over the break and theres bound to be a southerly or two.
Southerlies are straight onshore at H Nest .
Near impossible to launch I would think. The road that winds around the bay becomes a beach.
Jimmys Beach at Hawks Nest works fine in a southerly.
Yes it is onshore but you just run along the beach and work your way upwind.
Sailed it also in a howling SW'er and its bump and jump heaven.
About the only direction it doesnt work is north and nor west.
Maybe in a 10-20 knot southerly its sailable but I've seen it when its howling 20-30 from the south and its a mess.
Cant see anyone enjoying a sail in those conditions.
