Funny they are calling it a "TOUR" !
Hello,
well it is "NSW" windsurf tour, not "Queensland", but you are welcome to come on the wave tour there is one event in Woolgoolga which is closer to you.
cheers
Fair call about the Slalom "tour".
Basically it is the 1st year of a new Slalom series and we wanted to centralize the venue and learn how to run slalom events that are not only fun, but appeal to a much broader group of windsurfers. The Series should develop over time into more of a tour, but we had to start somewhere.
We are really hoping that a lot of recreational and even wave sailors rock up and have a crack.
There is a division for purely having a go.....
"Slalom racing – no limitation on equipment except: no part of any skeg is to be more than 700mm from the stern when measured along the underside of the board."
Can someone translate this into English? What in the world is a skeg? And is the stern the front or back of the board? Did you guys did up these rules from some agent british yacht racing manual?
"For a Slalom scheduled event it is the intent of the race committee to conduct slalom racing in wind strengths from 12 knots upwards to a maximum of 35kts."
You guys are party poopers...
"All competitors whilst racing shall wear personal flotation devices."
Do floties count as a flotation device?
Unfortunately NSW laws force us to wear life jackets.
We are actually intending having a pool of jackets at the events that you just put on for your race.
Wind limits are more about our rescue abilities than anything else.
re: The "Tour".... Definitely pushing the boundaries of the word, but it is a start and we really hope it develops into something more substantial over time...
Who gives a s..t what it is called! We should be thankful that there is going to be some slalom racing, and in fact people prepared to run it, period.
If some people sailed as well as they whinged, we'd have a pretty strong fleet rocking up for slalom! I say, bring it on and lets just have some fun. That is what it is all about in the end.
Awesome work... moving up to Sydney in a few weeks, looking forward to checking out some of the events.
Was glad to get out of SA and the last 18 months in Vic has proved to be even worse than SA. (Probably as much to do with work clashing with the conditions and my location in Vic, than the conditions themselves)
Hopefully the conditions will be as good as the organisation up there.
Keen as!
