Looks great! How often does it get wind , what's the average windspeed and how consistent is it?
I'm a bit worried about all the tales I've heard of non locals hitting sandbars getting around the area..

Yes sue probably lots of tales of Burrum issues. I went as a "keen beginner" last year and probably made all the mistakes that were to be made.

Rock ledges, Sand bars vs 56cm fin, swept up the river on the incoming tide, rescued from the Chanel ......

However....

all in all it was an awesome time with everybody very supportive and helpful

it improved my sailing and ......

going back again this year and taking a few of my sailing buddies with me - can't wait

cheers Jeff

Burrum heads is not a consistent sailing location.

Good conditions (15 to 25kts) require a combination of wind direction, strength and a low tide. There are probably less than 10 good days a year. The majority of these occur during the autumn SEers. A well positioned Low or Cyclone in the lower Coral Sea can produce epic conditions. This does not happen very often. The last time was at Burrum Windfest in 2013.

Once you know where the sandbars are located then, sensible sailing can avoid running aground and damaging gear and sailors.
