Hi All,
We are still waiting on a flyer to be finished for the Green Island Nationals but I can tell you that they will be on and the dates will be from Monday the 24th of July until Friday the 28th of July.
This event is always one of the best on the windsurfing calendar, covering the Slalom, FreeRace and FreeStyle disciplines and located in one of the best windsurfing locations in Australia. There is a relaxing, party atmosphere, the wind is normally honking, it's warm and the waters are crystal clear.
Stand by for the flyer with all the final details.
Regards, Scot Farley (President Windsurfing Queensland)
I might even bring my own sails this time and learn how to sail them right way round!
Jonesy i give you some tips if ya come up this year
Classic Evidence, This is why it's so good up there from sunrise to sunset, not just a couple of hours in the arvo, all day windy.
Registrations are now open for the 2017 Green Island Nationals. Visit www.greenislandnats.org for details.
I spoke to a client of mine from Cairns today and he was complaining bitterly about the high winds stopping him from fishing. Game on boys and girls!!!
Just a couple of questions.
Looking at being in Cairns while titles are on.
Where does ferry leave from ? Does any one know handy caravan park for ferry.
Can I leave my gear on Green Island during the week?
Will have some sailing gear with me not too fussed on the comp but happy to enter if it means I can leave gear on the island. Cheers

3. Yes when your entered in the comp (limited 1 board 2/3 sails)? Check GI website for details
Only 2 weeks to go before the start of the 2017 Australian Slalom, Freerace and Freestyle Championships, to be held on Green Island (near Cairns).
Don't miss your opportunity to join some of Australia's top windsurfers for an incredible week of competition, fun and camaraderie.
Escape the winter blues to the Great Barrier Reef, with its tropical warmth and trade wind conditions.
You've seen the iconic imagery and panoramic spreads of windsurfing at Green Island ... this event is for you!
Green Island is one of the most spectacular locations in Australia; an absolute wonderland for windsurfing.
Participation will be a lifetime experience for those taking part. Don't miss this opportunity - enter now at www.greenislandnats.org
For those colder-climate Queenslanders heading north to Cairns from Brisbane, Virgin Australia can accommodate gear bags on their Boeing 737's up to 3 metres long, and Qantas up to 2.7 metres long - but please check the fine print before you book. Much more information is available on the event website at www.greenislandnats.org
looking forward to it, wind that is, warm water, friendly people top spot what is there not to look forward to.
See you there Byron and Vando
Just managed 10 degrees and no sun or wind down here today, again, so can't wait!
Looking forward to an update from today's racing. From the photo's I've seen it is looking awesome.

It's pumping green arrows all week. Tides are really good. Slalom in the morning and freerace after. Tomorrow is planned for 3 rounds of slalom first up and a 1 hour freerace straight off the back all in the top pond.
Thanks Bryn, sounds ideal and I like the idea of running the freerace after the slalom. Either way it is a mission to do them both but dropping jibes in the slalom because of fatigue is more devo than dropping them in the freerace, at least there is some chance of gaining ground again.
Great to hear you can use the flat water area for both. That will make for some cracking speeds.
Cheers, Scot.
Cracking day today, winds smashed the course at 25-30 at times, Slalom racing at the highest level, Freerace 1hrs at times getting up towards the 1hr record! Full on , the wind strength wasn't expected today was a surprise,
the updated scores should be later tonight some of yesterday's didn't get loaded...
some amazing sailing by the top guys... watched Ben Aka Mr green simmer smash a 39knot run , after 6 rounds of Slalom!
a round of slalom and FR is planned for tomorrow also,
6th day straight of sailing for me ...glad I've been doing my push ups!
Aweome week again, well organised and running like clockwork.
1day to go
Congratulations on winning the Green Island Slalom Nats in 2017 Max. Since you are living in NSW at the moment and even though there is an F in your sail number, I think NSW can count this one against QLD.

NSW are so desperate to get one up on QLD

Yes we are desperate, can you blame us!
Many thanks to Michael Jones (QLD) and Derryn Arthur (NSW) for helping to showcase the magic that was the 2017 Green Island Nationals. Have a read of our Green Island article on WQs Facebook page ... it is a little lengthy, so grab a cup of tea.

There is a couple of great little video's on the Tassie page also, www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/Tasmania/Green-Island-Updates-for-those-that-are-interested-?page=1#lastpost
the images from from last week will be going around for some time yet . Some of the 'drone' footage Ive seen that is 'yet to be released' is simply stunning ..there was also a 2nd camera out on day one at the gybe mark that will have some great shots, especially Bryn's 'I think I'll have a crack at a duck gybe at high speed double half turn twist and pike!"
If if you have a look on bookface for 'Billy Craig's Windsurfing' you can see heaps of pics also...
FTR...I slipped into a 8th over all, meters off 7th , most importantly taking out the 'Bryn & Jonesy Air B&B FR championship' considering on, 1 x 100ltr board and no race sails I'm pretty happy with that ...maybe need to gear up for 2018 and see if I can get to those 25knt hrs, felt like I was in 2nd gear compared to the top crew.
The plans are for another event in 2018 , so when you see the dates come up don't miss the chance to enter, I think next year it could sell out, would be great to see some more of the go fast Brissy guys up there :)
