Have the update on Green Island, its absolutely all GO, June 16th - 20th.
Website has been updated, http://www.fw-australia.com/greenisland/event-info-2/registration/
Organisers are aiming for at least 3-4 1Hr Freerace heats during the week, so if your not into the Slalom racing there will be plenty of Freeraces also, plus you can just 'freesail' at your own will in between events.
Participants numbers are quite good already with people coming form all over Australia, but there is room for more!
Would be great to get heap of Qld crew up there. Qantas have some good flight deals on currently.
I know it sounds cliche but the water is so clear, warm, and its BLg%^! windy most of the time, flat to moderate small chop, and sheltered areas for non sailors.
A lot goes on to make these things happen, especially in harder to access areas like this...use this thread to chat about arrangements etc if your heading up, could be some options for 'shared' accommodation etc to lower costs etc.
I've book in again, was great last year, fantastic place to sail and the event was ran fantastic.
Hope this year is a repeat of last on all levels.
Not sure if the message is out to all prospective attendees, been a bit quite side on the publicity front
but that might be for a reason, don't want too many people coming haha
Great, I am coming. Can't wait. The web site does not seem to have any entry facility. Coming soon?
I know they are working on it, final costs TBC but very 'similar to last year' .
The entry fee includes your week long boat pass to and from the island, so you don't need to be a mathematician to work out it's done at super rate, island hoping is expensive normally.
Heads up on cheap airfares,
Jettstar. And Qantas have a cheap deal on tonight only .
Just be aware that Jetstar has a 1.9m bag restriction so you will need a plan b for your gear.
Also... Confirmed by GI team if you book your airfares you will be guaranteed. Entry to the event!
$250 is the magic number for fees including your ferry transfers for the week and the on line entry system is due to be online within the next 2 weeks.
Finally booked tickets!
It's cost me $28 return for a week in Paradise! , gotta love flybuys and Freq Flyers points....Business Class on the way back to stretch the aching bones after the week!
Can't wait!
For clarification re FreeraceQLD post as above re "guaranteed entry"
Online regn will open ASAP (eta 3 May) directly after FW Worlds and you can guess the rest..
Meantime; Anyone making confirmed bookings for airfare etc PRIOR to online regn /entry being available will be guaranteed a slot
(ie : don't fail to take advantage of any airfare offers if you are waiting for online reg or a confirmed registration)
If you commit, so will we. Anyone who's played before knows we do it right.
The fine print ?
We really wish we didn't have to, but in case someone wants to be really pedantic, here's the deal..up front, in public.
Usual minimum BS - but the 2014 event will have an entry limit strictly as a result of the Govt permits required to access Green Island for any event.
This is a physical and strict permit limitation on the space available to us for event, equipment and storage. Same as last year.
In the spirit of GINats, we'd invite and welcome everyone to participate, but in the event of an over subscription to 2014 entries, our priority is ;
1> Entrants holding bone fide travel confirmations (ie airline tickets or equiv) confirmed PRIOR to online entry being available (as above)
2> Inaugural participants from 2013 making the return for 2014. Yep, money where our mouth is on this one.
3> Wildcard or suitable qualified/ranked competitors as nominated by State / National Associations (hey, it is the Nats..)
4> The remainder of slots allocated in order of completion of online entry procedure (ie paid and no excuses)
5> Anyone who has a better reason....
