Check out some scary sailing using small fins only to find the fast sections along the shoreline of Lake George.

It was as bad as it looked, plenty of damage in the shallows, just lucky no one got hurt

You guys need forward scanning depth sounders, or retracting fins, or maybe just cruise the shallow parts first, or take up kiting.
