Does anyone have a gauge on how much wind you need at the stations to sail Neil Street in a SSE/S wind. I had a look Monday and it was too light. Offshore stations were reading 12-15 knots.

Hi gestalt. I am not the best Neil st advisor but find the Maroochydore airport pretty accurate.
S and SSE are really hard. Often nothing inside and nuking out the back.
SE is much more consistent.
Low tide easier in more southerly directions.

Green arrows at Maroochydore at least is a good indicator, but it will be lighter inside, normally about 2-5 kts lighter depending upon n the direction. Almost 10 kts if it's southerly.

maroochydoore as others have said. if its S or SSE, swim gear out 50 metres and then waterstart at windline and float out to the reef. direction is way better when its like this anyway for down the line

Was hoping if the southerly was strong enough it might be sailable on the inside. not sure i'm keen to swim unless i have too.

Just in case anyone is wondering, there is a network of 5 Holfuy gauges covering the sunny coast. They are far more accurate than the Airport gauge which seems to have it's own micro-climate sometimes.

Currently the northern most gauge (Sunrise beach) is out of action and the paragliding club is trying to restore it.

Currimundi gauge would be closest to Neil St.

Also there's a good app, if you favourite the gauges in the right order they will display north to south and give you a good picture of the coastal wind at a glance.

Adding to that list is the wind-meter just sitting in the shipping channel just near/south of Caloundra
