The Train windsurfing spot and boat ramp will finally re-open on the 12/2/16. The good news is that after a lot of discussions with council, parking for sailboarders and the general public has been provided in the boat parking area in a “shared” zone.
Many thanks to Scot from Windsurfing QLD, Kiteboarding QLD/NT reps and several local sailboarders and kiters who have spent a lot of their time making sure the sailing group needs and concerns are well represented.
The Details.
Sailboarders can now use the rigging/de-rigging area located at the end of the boat ramp next to the beach. Time Limit – 20min.
Shared Parking Zone. 10 double parking spots have been allocated for parking between 1pm and 7pm. It is possible to “double Up” allowing for up to 20 cars – no time limit. It important to note that the general public can also use this area.
A possible oversight is that the other parking spots are labelled “cars with trailers” instead of “cars with boat trailers”. This may allow those lucky (rich) people with a trailer full of sailboarding gear to park anywhere any time! Please check all signs to confirm you are in the right spot at the right time!!! All other spots are meter parking.
The train now has double showers and a nice revamped beach area with the locals below already checking it out!
That's good news. Well done Phil and the others involved in making this happen. Look forward to sailing there soon with the train locals.
Looks good. Will be interesting to see how it actually pans out with all the cars and power/sail boats and sailboarders (plus kiters) all sharing the one area. Hope it works out well for all.
well done Phil. BTW I am impressed by design. Looks somebody is thinking and parking bays are at lower angle that usual 90 degree.Pity nobody never get this same idea at busy supermarkets parking.
That sounds awesome, a big thanks to Phil and all involved in taking the discussion to town planning
Will also be worth recording how many times and when all the 76 car and trailer bays are filled and maybe then putting a case for a wider parking time band (and possibly more spaces) for cars without trailers if the 76 bays are under-utilised.
Excellent work Phil, thanks for your persistence on this project, the Windsurfing Community owes you a debt of gratitude. Lets hope we can get the 6 knot zone through to top it off.
I've seen the shared parking I recommended in a report to the Redlands Council for Wellington Point being adopted in a number of spots now and it is nice to see common sense prevail.
Regards, Scot Farley
