We have some exciting news!
Our application to the Gambling Community Benefit Fund to purchase ten sets of wind foiling boards and foils has been approved!
This application was submitted due to the WQ committee identifying the need to help provide a pathway for youth and junior sailors to enter the sport of windsurfing. These setups will allow cheap entry to the exciting world of wind foil racing and in turn build up the size and level of the wind foil fleet in Queensland. With the Brisbane Olympics on our doorstep in 2032 it would be great to see local sailors representing Australia. We hope this equipment will go a small way in helping to unearth these future Olympians.
After rigorous research and discussions WQ has decided to purchase three sets of the Bic Techno Wind foil and seven sets of the Starboard youth / Junior Olympic IQFoil. These setups will be stored and managed by RQYS and paired with the existing Bic Techno rigs available for rent at the Windsurfing Centre of Excellence.
The setups will be available to lease on a per term basis to motivated sailors who are going to race and have achieved a minimum level of foiling technique (lessons available). It is hoped that all sailors who apply to lease this equipment will also sign up for development coaching at RQYS and take part in local and national regattas.
If you or your children are interested in taking up Windfoil racing there has never been a better opportunity.
Enquiries can be directed to Windsurfing Queensland or RQYS.
The equipment is set to arrive before the end of the year. More information will be available in due course.
