I did some work a couple of years ago just near Emu Park which is about 30min south of Yeppoon. I was amazed at the consistency of the wind - it seemed to blow every day at 15knots plus. I think it was October I was up there - I took the gear up on my second visit and got a couple of good sails in, just on the local Emu Park beaches - dont know what they were called. There's no real surf to speak of but there was a bit of swell rolling in with the wind which made for some good jumps - pretty much on shore wind and just tracked up and down parallel to the beach.
The water's nice and brown too, so if you're used to sailing at wello, you'll feel right at home.
If your heading up its definitely worth taking your gear - there's a reason they've got that singing ship at Yeppoon.
Thanks for asking about yepoon - That was pretty well timed I will be in Yepoon from the 10th to the 17th Aug - and will definately be taking my gear up. - I have been wondering what the wind is like up their as I have never traveled that far up the coast, and especially since it has been a bit crappy ao the bay lately I am desperate to get a couple of good sessions in - I have however looked at weatherzone a couple of times and it has not looked to good - although they are predicting 15 to 25 knots sw on Monday
Thanks for the response ! I am shifting up there in October and i am taking the gear with me! and the dog ! and the mrs!
Have been sailing yeppoon on and off for the past 20 years and it is a fantastic spot to sail. Great bunch of locals who are all pretty keen. Most people seem to sail from the sailing club right on the main beach, nice grass area to rig.
Can even sail over to keppel if your keen!
goldcoastmoz,
Sausage is one of the best local sailors from Yeppoon, that is up until his wife hangs the towel over their balcony, which is the secret signal for "get your arse back in here."
I have no idea what that cryptic message was either???
INTGTTTSIWBBHOIHFMP - I need to go to the toilet so I will be back here once I have finished my Poop.

Apologies for the puerile reply GCM. There are heaps of spots up and down the coastline between Keppel Sands (south) & Yeppoon (North). Generally the majority of windsurfers sail from Keppel Bay sailing club off the main beach both in SE & NE winds. We don't get classic wave riding swells but the bump and jump conditions are fairly good. Every now and then I'll take a run across to Great Keppel Island (15km one way) in a south easter leaving from Emu Park. If your ever interested PM me. I have attached a google earth image of Main Beach with one of my tracks overlaid (I normally sail off Lammermoor Beach which is indicated at the start of my track). Good luck with the move & looking forward to seeing you on the water.
BTW SA68 - July / August isn't very good for any wind as High pressure systems tend to be sitting right over the top of us although with a strong westerly Keppel Island would be great for a sail.
cheers!
thanks for the info, greatly appreciated! ( and the clarification of the cryptic message).
CU in October !!!
