Why can't we have water like that with 20 knots wind. It would make for heavenly flat water sailing.
Hey Richie any sign of the super maxi's training for the big race this friday?? Brisbane to Keppel starts 12 noon.
Love the catspaws on the water. I always enjoy sailing boats in that sort of wind, trickling along, watching the water go past.
I used to live in NZ. There is a place called lake Aviemore in the waitaki lakes. you can camp all around the lake. During summer the lake looks like this in the morning - waterski lie around read a book etc all morning - then the wind kicks in anywhere between 12.15 and 12.35 - it comes in a line instantly 20knt - by about 4pm 25 - 30knt funnelled up from the cold ocean through a mountain valley. Very even
day light saving so you cook a BBQ have dinner hiding in the lea of huge willows then sail again till 10pm!
too many trees aorund and too strong for kitesurfers- to locals and nonwindsurfing people a lake from hell. :-)
Great shots! I was lucky enough to be right next to the start boat as they flew past, wild oats is amazing! The vodafone tri was a ring in, it is not allowed to take part in the race, yet it still chose to slice through the fleet at the start, bad form.
At one point, wild oats was doing 13 knots and the tri was doing 21! in about 8-10 knots of breeze.
Wild Oats crossed the line 12.20, not a bad effort getting to yeppoon in 24hrs! broke the race record by 3hrs.
