I would like to try these mud banks but I can't go today, perhaps on Mon & Tue. Are you talking about the south east corner of the Chochie Island? I was passing those banks couple of times and they made me really nervous as I'm not familiar with this area. Sand & mud bars seam to be everywhere on the low tide.
Is anybody who knows the place well keen to go there on Mon or Tue ??? Wind & tide should be spot on.
this is it below. it's called "the Strip" I was given the heads up many years ago by an old timer that worked the area in boats. I called it the strip because it was a sea plane landing strip used back in the day. www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/Queensland/Victoria-point-speed-strips/
there is also the run heading north/south in the thread i linked to that I refer to as the funnel because starts really open with banks on both sides and then gets real narrow between banks.

Vando advised a few months back that the bank needs 0.6m tide or less to work. That means it will be working from approx 1.30pm to 4.30pm.

can also be gusty in a SE wind sometimes. not always but you never know until you get out there.
seems to be preferred in a Southerly because the angle is better and the wind is better.

Thanks for tips guys. Yes, that's the strip I was passing and was wondering if hit something or not. I think the bank was up at 0.9 tide but I could be wrong. That would great to join you tomorrow. I'm sure "tildark" (Curt) will be keen too.
there's often a bit of marine life along the bank, turtles in particular, so if i'm the first one there i tend to take it easy on the first few runs until they take off elsewhere
George, Albert, Curt and I sailed the speed bank at Victoria Pt this afternoon. The bank was well defined and the angle was really good from the northern tip back towards Victoria PT. The wind was pretty gusty, cycling between 15 to 25kts. This was the first time I sailed the bank and it was a good reconisance. Hopefully the wind will stay on tomorrow and we can really give it a shake.
Sausage and I have been skunked up here in yeppoon hope you guys get some wind down there.

The turtles down there must be a different species. The ones at the top of the Bay are attracted to windsurfers.
I agree the turtles are much bigger up your way. down here they don't grow too big because the tiger sharks eat them before they get too old.
