Hi there, I've acquired an old but beautiful AHD Exocet LE SCS. I believe 1996 model, 270x53 cm.
Would any one know what size fin would suit it best? It came with a concrete wave
slalom like fin, but I believe it restricts its speed potential. Ive only managed to get 30 knots out of it. it accelerates amazing but then signs out.
Does anyone also knows if at the time was intended for flat water or can it handle chop too?
Finally, it mentions that it will support 80kgs, would that be the equivalent of 80 liters these days?
Thank you in advance for your help.
I used to Sail a Fanatic Jag and F2 Thommen 2 270 in the mid to late 90's. I had 2 F-Hot fins 28 and 32cm, both with narrow cord, quite upright and very stiff. I also used a 32cm Select G10 wave slalom fin, that was wider and had quite a bit of rake.
The F2 came with its orginal fin, I found this link

I think that it was 30cm and one of my all time favorite fins, it really suited the board well
One of the weaknesses of this board shape is that they are prone to spin out. This is probably worse if you are using modern slalom sails. However, they are capable of very high speeds
Thanx a lot for the info mattspoonersurf, please excuse my ignorance, I tak eit the F2 Thommen 2 270 is similar design to AHD Exocet LE SCS? It certainly looks almost identical. Perhaps same designer?
I don't think that it was the same designer, however, it was pretty similar in design. This was an era where speed without compromise was the goal. I sold the Thommen 3 or 4 years ago, but it still felt as fast as my Fantatic Falcon 90 at the time. It was a nice board in flat water, but as soon as it was choppy it was a pig to gybe.
Looking at pictures of the fin, it appears to be quite raked, this should help a bit with control. The CW fins were never that brilliant
