I doubt it. Torn material around battern, through the luff and smashed the monofilm. It already had a couple broken battens and a heap of little repairs as well. And paid $90 so thinking a repair is not worth it.

Well done on having a crack James but on current form you won't have any toys left to play with!

I know... My sails are not my friends at the moment. Staying away from 2.5ft day st for a while might help I reckon.

Im guessing that you took the photo Richard....im sure you didnt laugh much

Good effort James. Between this and your mast breaking at Middleton I have to say you are at the top of my list for the go for it attitude for someone so new to the sport.

Yep, bin the sail, with all that monofilm it was never going to stand up to much punishment.

Next time you might want to use an old board as well so you wont be so fussed when you bang it up till you get it sussed.

I am, and im sure Geoff will be also more than happy to give you some tips on forwards.

If it makes you feel any better i completely destroyed the nose of a board learning forwards, oh, and nearly permanently damaged my neck.

Biggest tip.....dont let go.

cheers bondy! My girlfriend took it, but she looked more concerned than anything when I came in though.

I figured when I was 2m from the footstraps it was time to let go haha

Great advise Bondy, except for binning the sail
Keep the sail for parts, especially battens, batten tensioners, etc. Never know when you may need these at the rate you are destroying sails!! Never know when I may call you to see what parts you have in stock

Old boards are cheap and good for learning forwards. Unfortunately you want to feel comfortable so having a crappy sail is a bit of a dilemma. Don't let go is a good logo. There are plenty of other moves that are safer initially but technically harder.

If you have the momentum tho - I am going through the same experience on the other tack. It is a hard lesson but great rewards once learned...
