I sail at LG a little bit , too have a speed event in October is the most crap time. Water at its fullest and choppy. Water cold so no weed beds and choppy gusty crap W wind for speed. Now if you talked February when we have over 50 sailors at times might make a bit of sence. Slalom at boggy in February no one will be there they will all be at LG. But really why is windSA trying to run events. Shouldn't they be trying to actually get clubs going again and support them. How many active clubs do we have now

Thanks for your input Jamie. im not sure what you mean by trying to get clubs going. What type of clubs are you referring too? We ask every year for input from sailors from other disciplines - ie slalom and speed but no one ever shows up at meetings or gets involved.

Speed event in February at LG would be good for all the interstate sailors, if the border is open!!

Jimbob It's really nice to have your input.
You obviously have never been to a Windsurfing SA meeting have you?
No you haven't cause we would have heard your voice there, and no we did not.

The Lake George option for October Long Weekend is cause for years now, we have been all going down to Beachport and Wavesailing and every year, the non wave sailors say we don't do anything that they can be included in.

Yes we know about the the season and how the wind works in SA, but if we don't throw it out there and say that when we are all down there and it's 15 knot and **** for wavesailing let's put up some 7.5mt plus sails and big boards and hit the Lake how can anything move forward.
Nothing here is set in stone, and yes there has been talk of a comp in Feb being put on by a local Beachport guy.

Maybe if you were active in the "CLUB" that we have had going for numerous years and actually support them like you say in your post we might be able to get more people to come onboard and have more of a say.

Windsurfing SA has been running events for years, remember the Robe Easter Classic, it was the second longest running windsurfing competition in Australia second only to the Mambo. I went to my first Robe in 1989.

Why shouldn't Windsurfing SA run events?

If we all had your ****ty attitude then we'd all be on here asking that same stupid question and nothing would ever get done nor would it ever proceed, propagate and become more than what it was.

What are these clubs you're talking about, one designs? slalom? waves?

Windsurfing SA is the only active club in the state that promotes Windsurfing in SA.

Did you join Windsurfing SA last year or any year for that matter?

Windsurfing SA has been an active "CLUB" for many years now, where have you been?

It's ****ty little posts like these that show people for what they really are.

Keyboard warrior much?

Now you can turn up or don't turn up i don't really care, but what do i care about is that there are a bunch of people who are having a go at making something happen for windsurfing in SA, what have you done for the sport lately?

Good job crew - trying to keep the social / wave comps etc going - I understand how hard it is to get things happening
thanks for putting it together - the events have always been well run and appreciated and a good chance to have a beer n snag with people you usually just see in the car park

JImbob maybe a LG windsurf club - looks like your in prime position for Preso

We tried a wave sailing club under WSA in 2009ish but everything just ended up running under WSA - the club thing just didn't have support. There just doesn't seem to be enough people interested in the club idea. We even looked at going under Surfing SA but that wasn't practical and too expensive.

Anyway my 2 cents worth

Time to check the weather - see ya out there

This post is a great example of how to discourage new members, if we all lived around Adelaide then attending meetings would be a little easier, how about setting up Zoom conferencing so we can all have a say?

Really?
That's another great cop out. In today's world of electronic media there was ample opportunity for anyone to send any suggestions to WSA irrespective of the meeting's location. Maybe you could have posted a response on this forum, which you clearly read. Not sure you actually had to be there to have your ideas heard....................!!!
As with any organisation there are too few trying to do too much to appease the rest. Reality is that they try and cater for sub groups who then don't participate anyway and the minority who offer little assistance find it easier to criticize rather than having input and being part of the solution.
It is a shame that the few who put their hand up to try and make things more enjoyable for others are the ones who ultimately take the bullets.
Choco, I'm not sure a Zoom meeting would fix the problem, but I'm sure if you made some suggestions then WSA would be keen to have you offer a lending hand to get something organised if you are so inclined.

Seriously!!

What more can we do? I put an invite out there to sailors from other disciplines to come along to the meeting because year after year the only people who show up are predominately wavesailors. No one ever shows up from the speedsailing or slalom disciplines. Then all we get is negative feedback after we put our time into trying to get something happening. At least half of us run our own businesses so don't exactly have time to burn and i am sure the other guys involved who work in jobs have just as busy lives. To put our time in and then have people complain afterwards it pretty disssapointing to be honest.

New people who are genuinely interested in getting something happening do get involved, Mark, Rob and Stu being a couple of examples who have showed up in the last couple of years to help get windsurfing events back up and going in SA.

They don't winge after the fact!!

Windsurfing SA is not there to "run" events. They are there to provide support to members and clubs affiliated with WSA/AWA help navigate the Local Government and council requirements and also ensure we are adhering to regulations for insurance purposes. And, if able, fund or promote events and training and be a united voice for our windsurfing community.
It's all our responsibility to help organise and run events. That could be identifying and liaising with existing sailing clubs willing to run an event using there facilities, or judging/scoring an event, volunteering your time as a committee member or even just setting up and packing up at an event.
It's pretty presumptuous to expect a small committee of volunteers to be able to organise, turn up, set up, run, judge and pack up all the events we love turning up to.
Speaking from experience, it doesn't take much. But finger pointing and name calling won't help.
If you have ideas, table them. If you're still not satisfied then you have course to ask why. But by not offering any assistance or input, what can you expect in return?
