I haven't windsurfed for about 10 years and would love to get back into surfing... I learned to windsurf in Chicago on lake Michigan (no sharks!) and was at the stage where I was learning to use the harness and make water starts. I don't know how much I remember... I'm wondering if there are other beginners who'd like to meet up so i'm not the only shark biscuit in the water or if there is somewhere good I could try out or take a lesson again? Thanks! Kerstin

Hi mate, welcome to Adelaide. Do you have any gear ?. If not, what's your weight ?

This time of the year is hit and miss if you can't sail during the week day. When the seabreezes start in October there will plenty of sailing time after work and on the weekend. Go to Tirrana way inWest Lakes if you're in town. You can't get into trouble there. I'm happy to join you if you like.

To my knowledge, there are no schools in Adelaide anymore for adults. You'll have to fly interstate, which, considering how cheap airfares are now days, and you're not carrying any equipment, this might be a viable option ?

Good luck.

Thanks! I don't have any gear currently so would need to rent something initially and happy to buy once i've got my confidence back and know what to buy.... I'm about 61 kgs. I lived in Chicago for 3 years and learned to windsurf at a sailing club next to my work - sails and boards were already set up. I just had to drag them to the lake and pretty much windsurfed any lunch time, after work and weekends in summer! I loved it but have been back in Adelaide now for 10 years and stopped surfing. I'd love to just try and see if i remember how to windsurf and ultimately get back into surfing regularly. Great idea re trying interstate. I might keep that in mind for next time I travel for work. I work full time so would have to be after work in summer when it's still light or on weekends.... Thanks for getting back to me :)

There's nothing like that here (no renting options). There's only about 40 sailors in Adelaide I reckon. It's a micro market.

Since you are 61kg, we can put you on my 110 slalom board with a small sail at Tiranna Way and see how you go. Not sure what day. It's only going to be the weekend at this stage and the weather is very unpredictable. I'll PM you my mobile and we'll take it from there.

Have you got a wettie ?. You'll need one.

Watch out on this forum for Windsurfing SA Family & Foil event on a weekend day at Goolwa Lake in January 2020 similar to the one held this year. You will be able to try out different beginner set ups and meet some other windsurfers. Then I'd say you'll have to take the plunge and get your own new or 2nd hand gear online because there aren't any rental places or brick and mortar shops in Adelaide these days.
