Can those in the know tell me whether Bakers will be good on the westerly tomorrow. I'm looking for steady cross shore with waves not too big or ballistic.....................can't tell you what I need them for
You would need to leave by 1.30 to get back by 5. Not worth the trip if your restricted by time that much.
Looks like another day at Borans for me.
Oh well I'll probably start around 10 and try for some distance if anyone is interested in joining
I would if I didn't have so much work to do. I dunno work always gets in the way of sailing, can't wait to retire so I can join the gentlewomans club.
Ben I'll have 3 learner boards with me to drop off in Lonny tomorrow ring me and we'll arrange a time.
If the forecast is good Thurs I'll be back up with the 4th board.
Houston - either Bakers or Bellbuoy today in the north.
Due to time constraints Greenie and I will not be able to head up until later in the day - possible out of Launy around 3.30.
The trouble with Bellbuoy will be the tide later on - it is rubbish on a high tide. I think that Bakers is little affected by tide though.
I would like to pay tribute to my very dear and persistent coaches Buzzy (south), Geoff (north) Jem (Morocco) who tried so hard to get me through the loop, I have let them down, I have failed them, the elusive loop was not for me today, guys I can't take it any longer and feel god is now my only chance so it's with great regret I depart this world and hope in doing so I inspire you all to succeed in pulling it off when I so clearly failed.
Ant Houston RIP
What is a loop really but a crash gone wrong.....so over rated......the cool kids are doing big floaty jumps.....having said that I saw Jason pull off a couple of nice ones yesterday at East Beach in difficult conditions.

Wow, that's really deep man.
Forward loops are so old school anyway,
having said that nice loops were had yesterday at Dorans by, brett, rob and rob , kaleb, jez and even one of the guys on the learner board managed to pull on off... sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo easy.
Houston, you are being a bit hard on yourself perhaps - if a front-loop is a cool move, and it is, and a one-handed front-loop is an even COOLER move, which it is, then, logically, the no-handers that you did yesterday are the COOLEST!...
You just need to make sure that you can walk before you can run - two handers next time perhaps.
Greens, Greens, Greens....
Barrel rolls are your way forward captain , less force safer landings unless you do one in a 1980 Honda accord like I did when I blew a tyre on the way to mt feild

Ice?
Ant...as I have learnt the hard way those loops are a good recipe for a trip to an orthopaedic surgeon.
Mate...you are the envy of many of us folks many years your junior. A true Grand Master you have nothing to prove!

Sorry your status should have read "Legend"!
Image 1 - setting up - spotted the ramp - heading in the right direction.
Image 2 - Hand back on the boom - further is better and I now reach to straight arm length
Image 3 - Launch - popping the board off the ramp and starting to steer the nose off the wind - stand UP on the board as you pop
Image 4 - body is just starting to rotate around the mast base - aiming to land back first in front of the board - pushing the nose further downwind
Image 5 - Feet up arse - sheeting in with the back hand, and pushing away with the front hand - board is pointing more downwind now
Image 6 - WAY sheeted in and... DON'T LET GO
Even at image 5, you are only going to land on your back UNDER your gear AS LONG AS you stick with the move - you are far worse off chucking it
Image 6 and beyond is a breeze - the body position in image 6 is the one to focus on, internalise, and keep 'doing' - it works
DRILLS are the way to get the confidence and to internalise the component parts of the move.
1. Little 'pops' pushing the nose of the board off the wind (don't over do it or you will go over the handle bars).
2. Small chop hops with your hand WAY back on the boom (don't pull or you will go over the handle bars).
Both of these drills will push you over the front and getting used to doing them gives you confidence that putting them together (and not letting go) will get you around - easily
Personally, I think that you should TARGET landing on your shoulder blades in front of the board - throw your shoulders in that direction (worked for me)
If you do these moves, even badly, you will get WAY further around than a shoulder landing - safely hitting the water back or arse first.
Bonne Chance!

Oh well .... happens. Just think of what a good life you have anyway, skiing St Anton and god knows where else in the world, sailed Gnareloo, Morroco, BOL. Aaaaand your retired and can sail anytime you want to........I'm sooooooo envious of all the above.
Sitting on the right hand of god I get a good birds eye view......................apparently if I'm a good boy I also get 40 vestal virgins
God also wants to know where you're sailing tomorrow so he can show me how to do it..................he reckons he pulled the first one off 20mil years ago
