There was sailing at lagoon late wednesday afternoon with Al and Geof C. It was hard to choose the right gear with so much wind variation, but some fun moments were had as the wind was cycling through with a few very fast runs in each wind cycle. The SW wind was bizzarely warm.

As I'm not too familiar with Port Sorell, what is the best direction up there for the speed runs? And I gather the best times are 2 hrs either side of low tide?
Haven't speed sailed up there yet so also not familiar where the runs are.
Fri/Sat looking good for it.

Great stuff Jez and Russ! Good to have a speed sail on the way to Marrawah to get things warmed up. Makes for a good start to an absolute epic weekend. Great planning.

That's a pity Perks, hopefully you get a blast at home after work.

I'm heading to Henty with Dave, looks like it could be pretty awesome. Then driving through to Marrawah for BOL Saturday and Sunday.
After sailing Stanley Tuesday and Marrawah Wednesday then driving home today and back up tomorrow I should have travelled more than 2000km and spent between 20 to 30 hours in the water in 6 days One PB so far and more tomorrow followed by some mast high waves should be a good end to my short holiday period

There's this site I heard about - its called thespotguide

Not too much to worry about at Portsy Kazza, just pay attention to the direction of the speed run, and stay out of their way on your way back up (i.e. get out into the channel away from sandbar so you don't run into anyone)

Ask the guys when you get there about the direction on the day, but it should be pretty obvious (and that spotguide site has old but relevant info! )
Also with so many people on a short run you have to use your eyes to see around you before blind gybes/bear aways...

**Good luck at henty guys!!

Congradulations on all the PB's at Port Sorrel. !!! It sounds like it was thrilling.
Low head had a top windspeed of 35-45 knots late in the afternoon which made East Beach look like the wild west coast.
These are photos of Al and Luka sailing East late in the day.

Sailing was much more pleasant with the sun out, but conditions were very windy all day. (sail sizes 4.7, 4.4, & 3.7.)
I sailed lagoon in the morning with Embo... Chris, Alan and Luka sailed East Beach in the afternoon.
Chris hit the water in time to catch the maximum 45 knot gusts of the day which made his selection of a 4.4 look a metre over sized.
Blowing even more whilst I am writing this post, last top gust 46 knots. The horizon at East Beach was looking fairly crazy.
I hope things settle down in the morning otherwise it will be a challenging day for the learners tomorrow . !
