Hi Fellas,
we are setting up a place in Bendigo and are looking for spots nearby where the kids can SUP and we can do some safe beginner level windsurfing again.

A quick check of the maps suggests that there might be a part of the Lake (Strath Bay) that might be suitable, as powerboats are restricted.

Any tips would be appreciated.
cheers

In case anyone was contemplating, apparently there's a good water levels ATM, and it meant to be a reasonable temperature to boot.
We did not make it to getting the boards out last weekend, but will have more time in 3 weeks to give it another go.

I was at Eppalock last Sunday, there is definitely enough water at the moment, but there were a lot of jetskis racing around and not a blade of grass anywhere to rig up. It's a pretty nice scene and driving right down to the waters edge is awesome. A local told me Greens Lake in Corop was a better option for windsurfers.

so we made it to LE last month and proceeded to give all of the those chilling on the banks something to laugh over.

zero to 2 knots in a gust, plus poor balance due to no time on the board in a few years, made sure I looked like a goose.
But the water was clear, full of fish, and a good temp, especially with 28 Bendigo degrees (= 35+ in normal temp).
It was nice being in freshwater, where we were had a short bank, then dropped off deep pretty quickly.

I'd like to try again on another day with a bit more wind, hopefully to get at least one good sail to add to the memory before the body gets totally decrepit.

Somedays I wish I still had the dufour wing plank, that at least gave me half a chance.

Hi Crusty Sailor,

I've got back into windsurfing at Eppalock ( learnt there on a wally board about 20 years ago, now do most windsurfing down bay). Recently purchased a 111 JP Supersport (has a few more litres for the fresh water and up and down winds), and run it with sails 6.2 - 6.9.
Was at Lake Eppalock three Fridays ago and had a blast for a few solid hours in a SW. Was a bit gusty and full on. Had the whole lake to myself. Got to pick my days as I live in Melb, so 1.5 hr drive.
I usually rig up in Kimbolton Pool near to swimming area, there's no grass, so I take a fold up camping mat/non slip mat to rig the gear on.
Get some good runs over to entrance to dam wall area and back again.
Cheers

Bill

Hey Bill,
sorry but a few months between drinks, I usually check the sailing forums more.
My gear is still down Bendigo, so might give it another go come summer.
It would be good to sail one day with some others so I can learn all over again by watching the pros.

I was surprised by the difference in buoyancy between fresh and salty.

No probs, I don't get on that often myself.
Hoping to get up there soon given its nearly at 100% capacity !
