First GPS race day for the season at Sandy Point. Great turn up considering it was a 2 hrs drive for most. Wind was up and blowing from 11am around 15 - 25 kts and staid in for the day.
Kato was sending smoke signals from the Prom as he was working with Dept of Sparks and Embers doing back burns. We waved!

Well done to all competing.
Big shout out to Dylan Tusler from KA72 for developing the software and making it so easy for dinosaurs like me to operate.

Teabagger coming in peace, the conditions were great at Sandy today, great to see you all out. For future reference do you have any tips for staying out of the way of your speed runs? ie what the flags mean, if you would prefer kiters dodge up or down wind etc

It was indeed a great day out. Thanks for organising the racing Doug.

I'd say what causes the most scary moments is when you don't look behind you before jibing/boosting etc as I am guilty of when I nearly cleaned up Martin Love without looking first. Sorry about that Martin.

Great to see so many competing and non competing windsurfers and kiters out on the water enjoying the wind
Great question to ask StKKiter.
Exactly what Ninjury said - just being aware of other water users around you when boosting or gybing
Some of the kiters where getting great air on Sunday!
Starboard has right of way over port
Pinching up on sailors/kiters sailing close to the sand banks can also be an issue

When Inverloch Windsurfing Club runs its GPS Race day we have a red and green flag
The green flag is RACE ON - generally for a period of 30 minutes
The Red(fluoro pink) flag is RACE OFF - Generally up 15minutes before the start of a race to warn sailors of impending start time and at the end of the 30 minute race times
We set a virtual racing area - that is generally the whole Inlet - and the computer and gps 's do the rest
When we are racing everyone is looking for the longest runs at speed and the smoothest water to gybe in so just general water courtesy is appreciated
We all get in the way at times - especially a novice like me so just a wave or an apology afterwards goes a long way to cooling temperatures

Never let a breeze go begging

Hi StKKiter, Great to see everybody having a hoot on the water yesterday, much fun was had. Yep it got a bit hectic along the bank and I had a couple of close calls mainly from me not reading the situation that well while going at high speed. I generally have no issue at all sailing along with kites but there are a couple of things that stress me out a bit. Normally on the Bay when I am passing a kite whether going the same direction or opposite I will always chose the option to go to windward of the kite no matter whether I have starboard tack right of way or not. The thing that makes me anxious is a kite boosting as I am passing downwind as when you guys do you fly sideways really fast. If I was passing you to leeward and you didn't see me and launched it would not end well.
Yesterday along the bank you guys were hugging up close and the Windsurfers generally did not have the option to go above you without hitting the bottom so mostly the only option was to go below. That's fine but we get a bit nervous as you may not have seen us. So just like the " best practice" when Windsurfing of always looking behind before you gybe I would ask the same of Kiters, always look behind and downwind before turning or boosting. If possible try to pass downwind if there is a Windsurfer approaching head on and don't boost in that situation as it scares the crap out of us old men

Thanks for asking,

mr love

No probs Colin...probably pretty arrogant of me to try and roar past you to leeward anyway. Pretty funny shots!
