1) for a new harness for my wife with a sliding bar, she has a mystic one at the moment any other suggestions
2) when did they get so dear, a few were just a touch under $1000
3) why do the pics of all harnesses in shops just show the back of it, absolutely useless to me. need to see the connection system etc

I like the mystic but doesn't have a sliding bar I don't think. Dakine has as sliding bar are are reasonably priced. Over $700 for mystic on sale

I like the hybrid ones, a waist harness with optional leg-straps (attached with velcro). Can't remember the name on mine but there is a "Mystic star" model, for instance.
1) setting the hook to the side is a must to reduce catapults and be more efficient upwind. Good news is you don't need a sliding bar, just need to rotate the harness itself by wearing a slidey rash guard over your suit
2) go for closeout
3) for looks. Marketing is mostly about looks then functionality. They do provide photos of both sides (sometimes).

Isn't that just a seat harness with a higher hook maybe?I am wavesailing and the FO transit was the only proper wave seat for a few years and now it seems there isn't anyone making one.

Not all harnesses are created equal. The most important part of buying a harness is, that it fits. And women are shaped differently around the waist to men. What is a great harness for one might not be good for someone else. Funny that most replies were from guys.. Best advice: she needs to try it on and see if it fits, doesn't ride up and doesn't squash any important bits (yes, women have them too). Heidi
You've entered a different realm here and you're about to find out just how difficult it is to buy any woman's windsurfing harness, let alone having special requirements like a sliding bar. Best fit I've ever had is my current (no longer available I think) Flying Objects Minx and I had to swap the kite bar out for a windsurfing one. It's the first harness I've ever had that fits comfortably snug while still loose enough to allow it to slide to the side and not ride up while pushing upwind. Like Heidi, I'm surprised at all the guys answering, as they can have no idea. Guys harnesses do not work for woman unless that woman is shaped like a bloke. Second best fit I've had was the Ion harness seat but the clamps on them are really badly designed and bugger up long before they should. I have tried and tested so many harnesses over the years and wasted so much money that it's a mind f**k every time I'm due for a new one. It's actually far easier to buy one while doing an overseas trip. Best selection of women's harnesses I've found was in Mauritius, still took me trying thirty or so before I found something I was happy with and still had to swap out the bar. Going to Europe in the next few months?

Yes, it does look a bit odd in web-shop pictures....
