I must admit I don't like slot box. I think it's not strong enough for the main fin. I'm looking for an allround 95 l trifin wave board and it's difficult to find it with central usbox, and second hand. I would use it in light winds on shore conditions with a 22 cm central fin, and float&ride side shore with 18 cm. I also have many usbox fins I don't want to change.
I like Goya custom 3 and starboard ultrakode, but the rest of the brands use to put 5 slot boxes. I'm quite exigent in turning capabilities of the boards.
I don't think so, but is there any freewave board with usbox which could surf like an allround wave board? Is there any comparison on the net between freewave and wave boards from this point of view?
Any suggestion/experience is appreciated.

The Fanatic Tri Fin, which I think is now called the Fanatic Mamba, has a centre US box. You'll find that most proper Freewave boards have a Powerbox as the centre box.
The Quatro Power and Goya One used to have US box center fins. Current models have sh!tboxes.

I would dispute that.
Any box has to take two loads, with the main one being the sideways leverage exerted by the fin's length.
It's like with a fence post in that the higher the fence, the deeper the post end has to be concreted into the ground.
The strength of any fin box is similarly a function of how deep the box is, and of how well it's fixed to the board. In this respect, the Slotbox is just as strong, if not stronger than a US box.
If you want to use a long single fin for freeride blasting, then you are of course better off with a Powerbox or a Tuttle system, because they allow the fin head to be deeper rooted.
In this discussion, the second load on a fin comes from when you hit a rock or ground the fin tip in shallow water, and at that point the load is backwards. A fin with a longer head width can be stronger than a narrower-head fin, but really it's about the fin anchorage system. The US-box fin has a 'tab' section that is designed to break when the fin hits something, whereas the Slotbox relies on the grub screw scraping past the fin's anchoring 'groove'.
At this point there's an argument about whether it's better to lose your fin in a collision - or whether to lose the fin box itself.
I have an 8-year-old Starboard freestyle board that has a 22cms fin fitted in a Slotbox, and it has been trouble-free. Just saying.
I do understand if you sail where there are a lot of rocks, then you might have different finbox preferences.
Goya One may vary in wave vs go performance. The 2014 / 2015 versions were very wavy. Newer ones more go. Otherwise, the JP is a reference as well as the Tabou 3S.
The Patrick wave have a us box as well. Being a bigger guy I ride a 113 for float and ride.

I have this board too, I really rate it even though its a big board it still turns well and is fairly quick to plane.

Really interesting to read your fin setup have been thinking about going the thruster setup. Only on my last quad fin session things clicked, board started to come alive also ride as single freewave which is like riding a mal on the waves, super quick for getting on plane though. I weigh 100kg so find the board to be fine in the waves, do have to put some grunt into it for turns but still fun.
This is a picture of my onshore wave set up. For use with 5.7m and 5.3m conditions. Centre fin is just forward of mid point of the back foot strap.
Also have my mast track 3/4 forward which is 133.5cm from the tail.
I have put foam with some sticky back over the unused boxes so I can just peel it off and pull out the foam to use as a quad.
I've got two 18cm K4 Leon super stiff fins too that I might try, not used this set up yet as winds this season have been mostly onshore.
It's actually a custom Prototype board with a squash tail rather than the rounded pin with winger.
I have put a few Texter marks on so I can see what works best.
All boxes are US.

Nice looking board
Older version exocet x-waves are trifin usbox center, they are closer to freewave than wave board imo but i guess you can make it work well on waves with different fin setups. They have second hand market in europe.
If I was in Europe or Aus I'd be looking at a custom. Probably Witchcraft or one of Mark's designs from OES.
