I seen some double forwards online and was thinking I might learn them.

Does anyone have any advice?
Should I learn to do just one first?

No need... Two are actually easier to learn than one.

The most important thing is that you must rig a sail 0.5 to 1 sqm bigger than you can comfortably hold. You must sheet in and hit a ramp at full speed. A 20 cm ramp on a lake is plenty big.

Make sure you are hooked into the harness lines before you take off. Once in the air let go of the front hand and pull in the back hand while looking over your shoulder. This will start you rotation. You can make the rotation faster by putting your free hand on the shoulder over which you are looking.

You can do one, two or even three forwards all in one go that way. How many is up to you. Just put your front hand back on the boom, unhook and stop looking over your should ... the rotation will stop.

Easy peasy ... FYI backloop is exactly the same except you have to look over your other shoulder so you rotate into the opposite direction... hence the name backloop.

Pushloops are a bit more tricky.

Except for those of us who used to over rotate our pushloops, so we now do pushloop into forward.

But rest of you, just carry on.

I'm interested too. Can move the daggerboard up and down sweet as, still having trouble uphauling though.....
Advice: FFS make sure you flush your wetty out properly. Theres no use coming in and acting all cool after your first double, smelling like p*ss!!

Oh come on fellas stop being silly and help him. He obviously is ready - after a chophop and donkey kick. Never been so ready.

Best advice is you need more downhaul. And a 2015 board.
You will nail it.

Just close your eyes before you throw one down.

That's all I ever did.

Worked for me.

You'd have made it if you'd been wearing your red polka dot bikini rather than that unfashionable black wettie.

Ah yes. When people start out the most common mistake is to start the rotation before having the feet in the foot straps. Even pros makes this mistake sometimes... except for Koester, he seems to have suction cups for feet.

Also, if you stall a bit more before you start the rotation that will give you enough time to spot the landing and be more committed.

Lastly, try and rotate more vertical rather than horizontal. This way you can use the mast like a pole vault pole and assist with the rotation.

All that said, you obviously didn't read my original post. Your sail is probably a 5.4/ 5.3. In those conditions you need a 6.2 at least.

Also, apart from downhaul, do you have the right fins? Do you need to be using a quad?

ok you want to do a forward ,I slow mowed your vid , 1st curl your toes to grip the board better so they don't come out of the straps 2nd heaps of speed and head down wind a bit,3rd get your back hand and move it down the boom 4th hit your bit of chop at speed tuck you your head and keep your eye on your mast base ( as your body follows your head so keep it tucked ) as you go round and pull your back hand in on the boom to help you rotate if you want to do a more horizontal forward look at the back of the boom as you rotate, to land release your back hand as you Land ,
remember all this in about 1 second ,hope this helps cos I don't want you to waste 15 seconds of my life with a vid like that again ! So give that a go and show us the out come

Always have the dagger board up and make sure your wishbone is tied on nice and tight to your one piece fibre glass pole.

yea ive heard that you do, other wise you will over rotate on a single

also change your board settings to forward rotation preference and the sail settings to over sheet, its like an assist to help with the rotation, i have found the best way to enter a rotation is to hit something first to start the rotation, say a mooring line or sandbar, sharks work but are hard to find, try to be underpowered and over finned as it will reduce your overall sailing abiity and build up aggression.

Oh I am so enjoying this thread. If only I had an alter ego too on SB (I have my suspicions of who eyemhardcor is normally around here ) I'd be able to post the video I think he is clearly taking aim at with this thread.

I think you may find double's tricky to learn in the South Sandwich Islands.

I would suggest you take a weekend break to Gerroa. That is where the only real wave sailing is done in Australia.

You may have to search on line for directions though as I heard it is a bit of a secret spot.
