Not as big as the 1983 Midwinters but it is huge by windsurfing standards of today in WA !

www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Windsurfing/Western-Australia/lost-windsurfing?page=1&fbclid=IwAR15Fy7-avx5rfW8lQDcFj4YD9QI1rHeauu7D3dSGpbmv51_hP5Ms4YYuQw

See the last midwinters I did in 1983 they couldn't spell my name, which actually looks like a typo in real life so all is forgiven. Snides was there in 1983 and will be with us in spirit or maybe he will be competing having had enough of foils for the year ! A few others registered in tomorrows event Laurie Huck and Paul White etc. See John Hutchinson's name in the results. He has defected to Sharpies and running over Clive Swanson who is an accomplished barger at the starts ! Scotty McKercher, Nick Poll, Simon King and Mike Galvin haven't registered but they have until 5 pm today to do so., you will see they were involved in the Midwinters in 1983 so we hope they get on board soon as they have been regular entrants in Windsurfer LT events.

The best and first LT era Windsurfer Class WA State Midwinters last one in classic era was in 1983 at Nedlands I know as I have sailed both and a few others in the fleet too. Overall a great regatta: 14-28 knot winds very gusty testing conditions for the fleet. 6 races (total 32.52 km) sailed around a two lap windward-leeward course with top upwind mark and gate marks at bottom. World class regatta organisation for the 23 entrants thanks to Mounts Bay Sailing Club ably assisted by the Windsurfer Class Association of Western Australia Inc. Results will be published soon in full by MBSC. The truly brilliant Jay Wild (176) took out six bullet race wins for the overall regatta win and was crowned WA Windsurfer Class Midwinter Champion. I can't remember the order of other results (with apologies to anyone missed) due to the lager frenzy that followed when Jay and Lloyd both rang the bell but among the top finishers were foiling Moth sailor, Lloyd Edmunds, Kelvin Ussher and South African Olympic team sailor Gordon Salvage. Thanks also to all sailors including congratulations to the parallel event for the raceboard division where the winner was Bjorn Hage riding his Speed raceboard (designed by Stephen McGeary) and vended some years ago to him by top sailor Simeon Glasson of NSW. See you next year at MBSC for the midwinters !
