Just wonder if anyone's got any photos of the pond ,safety bay when you could sail straight through to the island .early 90's -97 ..before the sand bank closed off....I never took any photos then because I never had a camera or a cell phone .and when did the gap close as I never came back for 6 years
i remember it ,but those memories have just about gone .it was fantastic
thanks for sharing if you have any .
ps ,never saw any kites then either .not that they bother me as I sail right out .
be back in November .
this request is obviously for the mature windsurfer..
wow,thanks elmo ..,big change .
still a great place to sail.
funny thing is in 1997 i wasn't scared of sharks and it was more open ,use to sail mainly down to warnbro .
love the ocean jumps .now I'm **** scared of falling off .down there,i hope there are no shark attacks this summer in WA.
I Know windsurfers are lucky we are always moving and unlikely to get taken ,but still scares the crap out of me seeing them .
still had 5 amazing days last nov-december there as well as a week up north .the weed bank is a great speed area ...i have a smaller delta fin this year..,the 34 just about had me last year .phew..
Used to sail infront of the yacht club there late 80s ,you couldnt point high enough to reach the sandbar(Dunga island it was called)from the jetty in a seabreeze.Picked up alot of chop in a strong breeze ,great for loops, clear water to.Must of closed in about 98.Other spots in the area have suffered the same from sand movement Crystals and Longpoint
Finally found some good stuff in a Paper of sedimentry movements of Wanbro sound

Aerial photos of Tern island from Page 94
There's even photos of the old yacht club jetty were the crayboats used to unload

perfect ...always wondered what happened in the 6-7 years i never came back 1999 -2006.
i have noticed in the last 4 years the sand bank has got a lot higher causing a bit of a wind shadow
still great sailing at the boat ramp ,amazes me how the wind always comes in earlier down there.
i have fond memories of about 20 windsurfers having a rest on that outer sand bank back in 1997.
or more like flipping their sails over ,like me a late gyber.
and not a kite in site.not that I'm bothered by them like my mates who still live there.
thanks elmo ,found that real interesting .
and i kinda wish it was still like that in 1997.
^^ That is Woodman Point, I'm guessing circa 1987
Yep woodies point.
Doing speed runs, pre gps. Just for the photographer?

great spot woodies...kite city now.
Hey Tardy l'm sure we bumped into each other like two ships passing in the night. The pond was my Fav back in the day.nothing like doing those speedruns along side the outer weedbank.
You never know ...I was a north prisma man then ..
when I sailed at woodies little rat bags where breaking into car ...
also a very favourite spot for rev heads ...some of the biggest burn out marks ..Ive seen ...
i still can't drink Emu bitter ... red back is my poison .
there was one problem with safety bay back then ,it was all the bloody boats anchored there ...

You should see the looks on their faces when the freestylers rock down there and start free styling in the sweet spot
Good one subsonic .
been trying to find photos .in 97 .found one of safety .penguin island ...and see how good Cervantes was before the big storm ...took the hole point away ,it was actually really good for speed runs behind the sand bay ..and the little bay to the right .
Not too many sailed there near the Kiosk. l mainly sailed across from bent street. The pond. I might try & get back to the west at Xmas then head up to Denham.Slalom heaven nice photos Tardy.
