Hey all,

Just a reminder that if you want a detailed look at what's happening at The Pond, then check out the SeaBreeze sponsored ultra-high-res pondCAM at:
1. see the high res image at Weather>Western Australia>Safety Bay Camera www.seabreeze.com.au/weather/surf-camera/safety-bay-wa

2. see the ultra-high-res, deep-zoom image at members.iinet.net.au/~mccaskie/pondCAM2.html (the 30sec avg data that feeds the Safety Bay wind measurement is also here. Shoot through a msg if you find it useful. Thanks to Seabreeze for the continued support for the safety bay measurements - Seabreeze still the best weather site for water freaks :)

Are there still poleys sailing the pond on the outerside.l be in Perth in a few days, just wondering should l just go to Mandurah estuary instead. Haven't seen this place (the. Pond) for twenty odd years.it looks all messed up.looks like a peninsula has grown over the years.seriously the place scares me.

It is messed up/closing in/dirty. Its not the place it was 10yrs ago. Tern island blocks a lot of the wind at water level, and its pretty much over run with kiters now. Still see 1 or 2 poleys there on occasion, but most of the safety bay crew sail out of carlisle st boat ramp up the rd now.

It was an awesome flatwater spot back then. I learned a lot on that flat water. Used to go down and spend the majority of a day on the pond learning to gybe, and harassing kiters that strayed too far downwind.

Ditto
i also remember when you could sail straight through to the northern side. When I first came to WA (95) I sailed Leightons Beach, but once I found SB I never went back

There would have been some nice bits of water for windsports around 1870s. This map of Liverpool town plan (a planned town where safety bay is now) shows at least two ponds ... One landlocked and peel harbour looking remarkably like the current setup
