Where is best to rig and launch for a session on Slalom gear at Port Beach? Or is it just easier to use the grass at dutchies and sail from there?

There is a sandy carpark just north of what used to be Salt but is now Fisherman's Daughter. If you park there you're rigging on sand and weeds but it's only a short walk to the water and it's a stunning place to sail in a sea breeze.

Never sailed there, does it get weedy? Will a pointer fin be ok.

Pointer fin works. Generally no weed to speak of.

I thought so, in winter there's some Ribbon weed but not a lot to stop you with a pointer.

Went there yesterday 7.0 and small slalom low twenties.
Today 7.8 medium board high teens.

Magic, definitely a favourite. Back again in wa next December!
