You reminded me about the photos I took a month earlier on 6th August. Same story though.

Was looking in the shed and found a sleeper from the old safety bay jetty. Reminded me of the long runs down penguin island sandbar, having to come upwind to clear the jetty then bearing down to get through the gap between the shore and the sand island. Gave quite a few walkers a shock as you blasted through the meters wide channel going flat out.

I remember there being just a shallow sandy spot 500 odd metres offshore as a youngster. Somewhere round 97/98 me and my mate sailed our cherub out off the nearly formed tern island. There was still a gap between the island/land. Its been a fun place to sail over the years, learned a lot about windsurfing on the flat water.

Safety bay is still one of the premium spots to sail close to the city. Great fun sailing between penguin island and the sand bar, then out into the "open" waters of wanbro sound. Good training for the ledge to lanno.

I reckon the teabaggers'll get a bit more time out of the pond, but its getting skanky too i hear.

While I was taking the photos some old local fellow stopped for a chat and was going on about how low the tide looked and joked that there was a Tsunami coming. I laughed it off but he went on to tell me about a Tsunami that hit the area in 1930. He said there were a few houses under water in Safety Bay and the whole Perth Metro area copped a pounding especially Freo. Maybe a Tsunami will restore the Pond to its former glory? Anyhow, I did some research and can't find any evidence of a 1930 Tsunami in the Safety Bay area so it was either not documented well or he got the dates mixed up or did he? Has anyone else heard about this or have relatives in the area that they might be able to confirm with?

I Took this 5 years ago .its filling in every year it seems .it had dolphins in the pond this day ,
i guess the only ones happy about the fill in are the kites ,looks like the boat ramp is the spot

Actually, it appears to be getting a bit to skanky, even for them...
