Does anyone sail here? I know there's a reef a bit further out, but apparently not that great?

Bit too onshore in the Seabreeze . I'd imagine you could score it well in a strong enough SE breeze with a boat

This is one of the best wave jumping and sailing locations in Perth, heavy duty though 1.2 km offshore and the reef inside comes out of the water with a big hole in the middle like a washing machine, going over this reef is horrifying and I have ripped sails and damaged boards I would recommend it to only the most experienced and hardcore wave sailers only, if you're keen message me and I will come out with you,not a good idea to go out there alone, dangerous and big whites, south south westers perfect

Never been there, but some winters ago at Dutchies I bumped into this legend (John), who said he would sail Alkimos regularly. He said most ppl who get out there will do so only once.

Sounds good. I've sailed seal island (little island - 2km off Hillaries) for years, not sure how that compares.

I have sailed little island too and have found it a good fun location it gets about half ocean swell blocked by rotto, while the alkimos gets full acean swell, i would recomend 1.5 metres or more swell and 25 knot sea breeze to make it worthwhile. The best place to go out from is to go down shorehaven blvd and then south to the end of portside promenade where you can park, bit of a treck through the track down to the beach. You are on the south side of the wreck here and the break is the south end of the reef directly out from the wreck, bit of tacking to get out around the south end of the break from here, there is a right and a left hander, left likes high tides 1.2 metres is perfect and the right breaks well with lower tides, be careful to ride the bigger ones a bit further out as the smaller ones riding right you can run onto dry reef. The jumping is megga and the waves go off, have fun and let me know when your going as I'm definitely up for it.
