Hey all, I'm travelling to PR (San Juan) for the Dec - Mar season. I'll be taking my prone foil stuff, but particularly interested to hear opinions on winging gear. I've seen some people on here mention they've gone to PR before, so I'm looking for some help.
I've heard it's great for winging the waves on outer reefs, but that the wind is also a little light. I'm on the heavier side (85kg), it will be my first time winging specifically in waves (I've done a lot of river and bay swell riding) and I'm interested to hear opinions on what gear I should bring:
- Wing sizes? I have 3.4, 4.3, 5.3, and considering buying a 6.4 for the trip. I'm guessing I won't need the 3.4?
- Foil sizes. I'm planning on bringing my 1300 & 980 for prone, and then for winging I'll have the 980 for lighter days, and probably getting an 850/720 if I get the chance to tow.
- Board sizes... I have a 85L and a 65L. Both surf shapes (narrow, longish). My daily is the 65L but I think I might be asking for trouble in light winds...

You probably won't need a 3.4 at 85kg in December. Actually, to be honest, I wouldn't go to PR for winds sports anytime after the November 1st. The wind pretty much dies completely between early November and late December. It starts gaining momentum in January. November and December is good for surf tho. I'm from Puerto Rico. If you must do the trip in December, bring bigger gear. Prone will be fun tho.

Oh, great then! You'll start sending bit of wind starting in January (unless of course it's a weird December and it blows then). Mid January through February you will start seeing big closeout days with lots of wind all along the North Shore, fairly onshore too. It's a washing machine. Head West and look for nooks and crannies past Aguadilla when that happens. Those stormy onshore days have gotten me great kite and windsurf days in Rincon where wind doesn't generally reach very well otherwise. Above all, be careful. PR have big surf, but more importantly, low interval... which makes it very treacherous. Also, keep in mind that 99% of all reefs are covered in sea urchins.
