Hey FB, I have recently bought a 78 SSS & super impressed by it. I have a mate that has one that's a few years old & he's had no issues!Quality is outstanding, probably the best mast I've had - my last 2 masts were the 76cm Duotone Skinny 2.0 & Code 80+ masts.
It's nice & stiff, skinny, the mast/fuse connection is tight as & it has the mast bolt slots that I missed on the previously mentioned masts.

Had to wait a little while for it, as they often sell out & only made in limited quantities.

No, you are correct no protection for the board/mast interface - if your reading this Jacko - imo it would be great if you could add this feature. Some prefer it this way, the latest F4 masts are the same. Pic of the underside of my SSS mast base below for reference.

Haha noted, let me see if I can track those pads down and maybe just offer them as an aftermarket product for the mast. Shouldn't be to hard to sort out.

3 months and 50 + sessions on the 84 SS and it is really solid and super efficient - def improvement from my 90cm Axis HM mastAlso went the SS as I'm over 100kg kitted up.
No flex at all with this mast, don't think you can go wrong at the price.
Make sure to get the mast bag - it is well made, holds the fuse and stab as well.

YES

If for some reason the adaptor is loose you could just recast the mast foot to make it a perfect fit again and then it will be super tight and perfect and won't rely on the screws a much.

Recasting the foot is super easy. I have a full step by step write up on this if anyone ever wants to try.

Weight on the masts is 1.9-2kg for the SSS and 2-2.1kg for the SS Approx. Masts are pretty much solid carbon cured in Autoclave so quite hard to make super light without taking away some strength. Always something to work on though for the future.

How would that recasting work on an aluminum adapter ?

My v2 78SSS ships this week. Pretty frothy for it. 😀🔥🎉

Had my first go on the v2 78sss and it was everything I hoped it would be. Years ago when I first discussed the sss with Jacko he told me that my assumption the Florence 110x would be an awesome match for the 78sss was likely correct. Here we are, a few years later and I had the opportunity to do my first ride on the v2 with a buddies Florence 110x. Originally I described that foil as having "fun, slower, but super enjoyable longboard style turns" (www.wouzel.com/post/shallow-water-exploration-part-2-winging-the-florence-110-x-in-the-gorge). With the 78sss v2 the upgrade was obvious. Snappy performance turns and tight radius carves were now available to me.

I purchased the new Vario 120 with Grubb 16 and Carve 20 tails to go with it. Monster wind forecasted for next week so I'll really get to push it hard but every one of my first impressions was positive.

How did the lift adapter seem . I found it relied on the 2-6mm screw and not the normal wedge fit of the lift mast base .

Mine is tight, I have to tap the foil with a mallet to pop it off with the two lift foils I've tried so far.

Thanks Brian maybe yours is different than mine as when I removed the 2 bolts the wing just lifts of or falls off . Did your adapter come from OO or from Stringfellow direct ? Mine as parallel side on it not tapered like the head on the mast . I still love the mast and I hit a huge piece of wood yesterday and went over the handle bar and thought oh no but the mast was un marked ❤️

My Lift adapter came from stringy direct and tapers about 2.5-3mm from top to bottom.

It’s the aluminum lift adapter that is loose in the lift fuselage ,if the 2-6mm bolts aren’t really tight the wing has side to side play .when I take the two bolts out the wing just falls off when you should have to use a rubber mallet . When I used to use my list mast the bolts sometimes would be loose when I came in but the mast was still tight in the fuselage .
