I have come up with a plan to replace my Takoon Comet SW v2 80ltr. into a board with more contemporary dimensions. My idea is to narrow the board by 12 cm by cutting away the yellow strips on the image. This seems to me to be the most convenient because I don't have to move any insert while keeping the shape and outline neat. The volume will then be about 65ltr. Due to the narrower outline, it may not make much difference to get on the foil. Would this be worth it? If I glue the pieces together and finish the cut edges with a strip of carbon and fiberglass both top and bottom, would that be strong enough?

That's wayyyy harder than u think and likely to fail with just a strip of fibre. At least needs the edges sanded out to a nice bevel (scarf joint) before laminating. In some ways it's harder than making a board

RolfB, I asked Bruno who shaped your board for Takoon what he thought of it. See his reply below! Hope this helps.

Cool! Thanks for sharing MP04:). I wonder what Bruno exactly means with 'not this way'. I didnt know Ordgy. The boards look awesome. I dont underestimate his work. 2 years ago it was my first board with a volume below my body weight. It suited me well to improve. But now I would really like it to be more narrow.

Ordgy is Bruno's company and brand under which he has been shaping since before Takoon. He shaped the comet series (also my first wing board of which I have fond memories!) Agreed his new boards look really nice! I'm sure Bruno would give further details about the right way if you reach out to him! Keep us updated!

pretty cool that the shaper is not butt-hurt about someone wanting to modify his shape (even though it's a couple years old).

How would you cut it to keep the glue lines straight? It'll be an interesting project & if it's like over here boards are worth bugger all 2nd hand so you may not waste anything if it doesn't work.

For a laugh I reduced width and length by several inches on a wrecked board, I didn't use the old bits just added a single layer of fibre glass on new rails and nose. I used a hand saw and it looked awful but worked fine which makes me sceptical about underwater hull refinements. Cutting off a bit of the nose was a mistake as it sometimes ploughed into water in light winds.

Jo!
Also thought about this. Got the ak phazer v2 110l. It's a great board already. But I think making an pintail or diamond tail and adding bevels in front also maybe make it more narrow would be cool. But finally it's always this thinking about the outcome and wouldn't it even better to sell it and buy a real midlenght!?!

Just need a handsaw and 2 layers of fiber glass ! I' ve tried friends gong crusader diamond and Takoon escape and frankly my 7x22 works just as well and the best is that I made it !

Over here the 2nd hand market is also bad. Thats why I came up with this idea. I will try to make the cuts very precisely and I can always sand them before glueing. I am now also thinking about extending the board with the pieces I cut away.

Based on my previous modification projects it will probably take much more effort then expected but I think I can do this. What kind of bevel do you think would work?

Nothings wrong with flat bottom and straight rails , l use my board in waves most of the time and l never fall if my straight rails touch ,its like taking an edge on skis the rail cuts into the water and stops you slipping . And what the use of having a rounded rail on the deck side ? Never even touches water .

Do u mean rails? Or tail

Rails leave same. Tail is a longggg answer and depends on use, width, and touchdown types you want to ummm 'moderate'
