I hit something in the water while on foil. It felt like hitting something solid. Heard a loud thump sound that reverberated through the board. I've hit sand banks and seagrass before and this impact was different, particularly the sound. I thought at first that the mast had been ripped off. When I see that both mast and foil is totally undamaged I'm terrified that i hit a shark. Foil was probably only 10 inches under water though so I think I would have seen a fin if it was a shark. Between wind turbulence and muddy waters there was close to zero visibility. Shallow waters

I have no idea what I hit. What have you guys hit and what did it do to your gear?

Harbor porpoise are like hitting brick walls. They pop up without any warning. San Francisco Bay

I've hit tree stumps, sticks, fish, and even a tiny empty bottle of oil the size of my hand. That bottle ejected me off the foil like I hit a brick wall. It's crazy how something so small can wipe you out.

Just fish. But not very big because it didn't knock me off. But one of our lakes here has large carp, and those will totally eject you. I just haven't been to that lake yet.

Foiling at Bird Island in Corpus Christi, you hit hit fish almost every run on some days; some runs, you hit multiple fish. Unlike much rarer turtle hits, you can usually stay on the foil, or at least on the board.

Recently hit a 25-30 inch sturgeon. Felt like hitting a railroad tie and stopped my board dead. Fun times peeling it off of my mast. Shockingly zero damage.

Ive also hit things that have felt large and solid, and yet seen nothing in the water, which is a little spooky.

Manatee in the Indian River in Florida. Water can be murky enough that you don't see them till you're right on top of them. It's a quick fall and they'll just swim off, but you definitely catch a glimpse of what you hit. No damage to the gear and I assume no damage to them. I've had about 3 hits total. Misc fish, skates and crab pots where I ride at home (soundside Outer Banks). The crab pots can nick and scratch the foils so I really try to avoid those shallow locations where they are prevalent

Mullet, (bora) they are pretty big and they jump, sometimes they even knock you off your board when you are standing, they swim in large pods and are really funny to watch, blue and yellow and silver with silly faces, they can jump about 2m high! Banks of sardines are beautiful as they divide in front of you in a giant silver wave

I was foiling about a quarter mile out from the rockaways in nyc. Hit something solid that threw me off my board. I swear it was only the second time since Jesus that somebody walked on water getting back to that board.

Other times, I've had dolphins headed right at me like they were playing chicken. Bait fish just go bumpity bump bump. I try to avoid them though cause I'm sure it doesn't do them any favors.

I hit seaweed BLOODY SEAWEED!! Every bloody session here in the Perth

Last summer I almost hit a small tiger shark, got within just under a metre of it, got a real good look at it, only about 1.5meters long but quite a fat sucker with the stripes on back. It was just chilling on the surface and didn't seem to notice me until I was right next to it. Definitely made me watch more closely as I'm foiling around out there.

Hi guys Jelly fish you will be going along and bump bump then some times they are that thick they stop you straight away and you can't get enough speed to get up on the foil again
