Hi newbie to foiling and dont want to upset anyone BUT.
Been kiting for some time now.
Is the best way to get into foiling to add a foil attachment motor to a foil setup ,and start from there ,or battle
with a kite and foil board. be nice guys and girls!

Foildrive and winging is hard, coordinating the throttle and controlling the wing is something experienced wingers even struggle with, definitely not a great learning tool.

Decide if you intend to wingfoil or kitefoil and go in that direction. As you already have kites means kitefoil will be cheaper initially. Look at your conditions and location, if there are heaps of wingers you will probably eventually head in that direction.

If you already kite, why not try a tray and foil sometime?

You make it sound like that will be a battle, compared to an e-foil. Dude - any foiling will introduce new skills its not like e-foil will be so easy compared to adding a foil to a sport u already do.

However- yes!! get something with a foil as you will increase TOW so much.

Hi gdownie,
Great that you're considering taking it up.
Given you have kiting skills, the learning process with wing use will be faster for you. There's heaps of stuff online about how to properly use a wing. It's a really important part of the process, that I've seen too many learners overlook. Get really proficient with the wing on the beach first.
When it comes to use of a foil, e-foiling can be of benefit, but it's a BIIIIG outlay to get an e-foil to assist you to learn to wing. As airsail says, trying to get a foil motor to assist while learning wing foiling will be a difficult process. If you do want to get some sort of motorised foil, I'd use it as an efoil first to improve your foiling skills. Then when you have your foiling skills polished, try the wing and foil together with no motor.
Mark makes a good point that kite foiling could be a good option for you if that's something that appeals? No need to go and throw money on a wing.
You have a lot of options. Good luck.

Hmmm, those e-foils look interesting. sort of, for someone who can't fly kites or has insufficient wind to keep a kite in the air! Kite-foil has many benefits (less expensive, less bulky equipment, using & expanding on your existing skills) and presents different challenges compared to wing-foil or e-foil.
Not that hard to learn if you focus on keeping the foil level, on or near the surface at first, and let it basically fly itself as the speed gets high enough. (ie: no battle necessary!) Heck, I'm even doing it.
