Anyone have experience with a longer midlength (6'+) with lower volume (-15-25 liters vs body weight)? Feels like most of the midlength boards fall into two categories - either shorter lower volume boards oriented towards prone or longer higher volume boards oriented towards wing. After trying some midlengths, I'm thinking that i don't really benefit from the volume as much as I do the length and I would love to try something in the 6', 60L (-20l) range. The length and surface area would efficiently bring the board to the surface with a small amount of power and the volume isn't necessary for me and actually destabilizes the board in my opinion.
anyone tried something like this? Has anyone seen a board like this on the market?

I have been looking at the Super K 60L 5.9x19.5 @4.5kg.
Currently on a dragonfly and sinker - If the FW paddle up phase passes at some point, this could be my only board (@77kg).
I have had it in my hands but not tried it, as shops tend not to demo those sizes.
Im curious about that board too, but I have a 5'9, 80L and I think I'd want more length if I am going down in volume. I think something like 6'2", 60L with an efficient planing hull would be really sweet.
My daily board is 5', 60L and I'm not wanting for more volume.
My sultan is 5'5x19x65l and pretty perfect for my 80kg, I also have the f one midlength 5'10x20x90l though for when it's marginal, though if i had a bigger foil and wing, i could manage on the 65l. I think their 5'8x19x78l would be an awesome one board quiver. They may even bring out another smaller one too.
Thanks for the input. The dims you reference are consistent with my view of the market. You either have a shorter negative volume board, or a longer positive volume board. That 5'8, 78L is very similar to a board I already have, but I don't feel like the added volume is serving me well. I think some length would more than offset lower volume in terms of efficiency, and also allow for additional stability and connection to the foil.

I would not want more length and less volume for a super k type of board. The 60 L size is -10 L for me, and having less volume would mean having to size up the wing and/or foil, or using it in higher winds. It all depends on what type of riding you do of course, and your conditions and everything. This is how the 60 L super K works for me. And no, just -10 L is not unstable. The volume is so well hidden on this board.

I was kind of thinking same volume, 3-5" more length, but that board is definitely interesting to me. Your conditions look similar to what I would be using the board for. My 5', 60L board is great in the bigger punchier conditions.
Been riding my 7'0 , 65 L naish ascend prone board for a year and a half now at about 87kg. it is my favorite board to ride. Plains easy with the length and stable for getting up in big chop. I have been waiting to see how this whole midlength thing plays out. I agree with you about wanting to get some longer lower volume boards but the new crop seems like they are only barely touching that metric. Would love to see some more boards in the mid 6's but in the 60 to 80 L range

I never noticed that board! Thats longer, but definitely more in line with what I'm talking about. And it has a planing hull and relatively narrow at 21". I bet thats super fun. Tracks look a little short. Thanks for the tip.

These offerings from GONG look sweet. Maybe someday they will ship boards to NA, but I doubt it.
I got a 60l custom made by kt early this year. Shape is very similar to super k, but with no step. I wanted a max length of 5.4 so I think they just scaled the super k and made it a bit thicker to get the volume. It's been working well for me. I don't feel much difference on foil compared to my 48l omen flux, but the added volume and length helps a lot on lighter days. You can probably have them make a custom with the length and volume you want. Price was about the same as prod boards. Downside is that it takes some time
I'm thinking I'll pull the trigger on a 6ish foot aviator/carver at 70l. This would be -16l when dry and probably about -25l mid winter.

well, ideally they would scale down the Dragonfly Surf Carbon (smallest 95L currently) and add a carbon foil box ...
that would be the board I'd buy.
Check out Gong's new mid length prone boards - NOTW, Scura and Intruder. Some great looking, lower volume, mid length boards.
Gong Scura look great. Don't think I can get them to the US, but definitely the best stock option Ive seen.
