Hi,
Anyone knows why only AXIS is releasing crazy small stabs ?
.... .Check this video at 16:47 :
I saw some of their crazy small stabs at AWSI this last summer. I wish there were more options from other brands but I think it probably comes down to demand. I assume the average rider isn't going out on the smallest stabs available to them and I know a lot of foilers who never even consider the stab here in the Gorge. So, it might just be a piece that is generally low demand for foil companies to bring to market?
They also recommend their longest fuse to pair with those tiny toothpick stabs. So they're selling a new stab and a new fuse together.
It's all about reducing drag, they have also thinned the fuselage from the mast to the rear stab to also reduce drag.
It does make a big difference, I'm just a regular foiler and mainly use the FB1070, short advanced fuselage and the Skinny 30 stab. It's just the best setup I've used for downwind, so slippery.
Interesting how some of the fastest race foils use very thin but large area and lower aspect stabs. The stability must be the important thing for racing.
I thought the skinny 40 was ridiculously small when I started using it. Now anything bigger bothers me with drag. I can see how less is more with low drag tiny stabs. I may have to get a smaller one or chop mine.
