PSH 12'6 Hybrid quad
Testing again today and this time a Hybrid 12-6 meant to paddle if you like paddling, race if you like racing and surf if you like surfing. Austin took it out this morning and destroyed some sections surfing it. Yup, this thing surfs unreal! Not just going straight but legitimate hard carving turns, floaters, off the tops etc. It's ridiculous in the surf and it paddles sweeeet..... The future is right here... Hybrid Surf/Race boards... Slam sections or paddle fast for miles... Yeah!!!
Any other shots of it and width / thickness ?
Looks sweeeet.
Maybe wood veneer by the looks too ? (PT Woody & I will be in for sure).
The board may be the future but the paddle looks like the past.. Look how big that blade is..
How wide is that board AA?

Thats the new Kialoa, haven't you seen it yet DJ?
Looks like the new Kialoa PowerTec, should be in stores soon.
interesting aa. the bop dc 12'6 is getting into that sort of hybrid area too. i was surfing my flatwater 14' in the waves yesterday afternoon and and a ball, catch waves or ride the bump. the more i do the easier it is getting. got to be careful about being a wave hog as you can pickup anything.
cheers
I think a 12'6 all rounder has a lot of merit. Seems to be a fixed dimension in Races & Battle of the Paddle, etc, 12'6 and under, or 12'6 over, or 12'6 to 14.... etc....
The longer boards have an ease of picking off waves, and you can surf them in a Hawaiian laid back style. They have good paddle speed for flat water, and are also a great length for exploring off shore bomboras.... A reasonable size for a distance cruiser.... but probably a fraction short for down wind.
PS - The shaping bay looks like most shaping bays (I haven't been to Dave's though).... blue walls, 2 board stands, under pelmet fluro lighting, some air tools, tools on the shelf, and little bit of air extraction! BUT, that board in the bay looks very very interesting !! Come to think of it, every bay I've been into has had a concrete floor also !
Yeah, I haven't been into many shaping bays, not real ones anyway. Only just guys who make stuff at home and enjoy doing it. Dave Daum's was posted on here a little while back, that's the only way I'd know it.
Silly me I guess
Back on topic-nah that's NOT the future for me-might be for those that want a one board quiver and don't want to surf waves on their board-it's a good idea-and should stay as one-you can't make one board to do all things well-make a downwind board for downwinders-a surfing SUP for surfing (Jack of all trades, master of none and all that)-why bother with a board which is only good at both rather than excel at either?
Look at surfing-same thing-I won't ride my 708 gun in 1 foot shoreys and I didn't take out my 510 in last weekend's swell-horses for courses IMO.
I want a hybrid.
Something about 12' (12'6" would do) so it fits in my garage. Not too much overhang on the car.
Something I can paddle flat water and go for a bit of a cruise. Do the odd downwinder and catch runners enough runners to make it worthwhile. Go exploring. Visit the odd bommie and catch some waves without risking life and limb. Go for a fitness paddle and imagine my Lairdie muscles glistening in the sunlight.
Something I can surf on when it's no good for the 9' board which will always be the surf SUP of choice.
It still needs to be not much over 10kg so I can lug it around without losing the will to live.
It needs to stack on the roof rack with all the other toys when I go for trips down the coast (and slide into the garage rack with the other boards).
I don't want a 14' downwind board because it's too big and too heavy and the wrong shape to fit anywhere and downwinders are too much of a drama to have a dedicated board.
I don't want just a race board because if there are waves I want to catch em.
I don't want a heavy allround SUP because it's no fun lugging a slug of a board around.
I agree, it will be the master of none, but some people like to participate, as opposed to win !!
A 12'6 like this will sell well (IMO). Good leaner board, you can have fun in a race, and you'll have a ball in 1/2 foot to 2 foot surf! And you can throw it into the river or bay and go for a bit of scenic cruising.... Master of none, but you'll have a ball doing it all !!
I agree. I don't want best I want good and reliable and easy and fun to use.
Elite riders have the luxury of choosing elite gear for elite conditions. The rest of us want to ride and have fun all the time no matter what the conditions.
The biggest disservice you can do to the public is to hold up the example of the gear used by the best riders in the world. That leads to people on too short boards and too fragile boards and too expensive boards and ...
The whole ethos of SUP is it is aimed at all of us, not just the elite.
Some pics of the new 12-6 Hybrid quad! VERY intersting board!
It's hard to describe the joys this board will bring.... You can race it, play with it or surf the shizzle out of it! We've been riding the prototypes and it's insane the combination of paddling and the level of surfing you can reach with a board that you can cruise around with quickly.... The photo's and vids coming will blow your mind!!!!!
