Hi Botany crew, I was thinking about organising some fun racing events in Kyeegmah. Now that we have the two new buoys perfectly positioned for a NE'er it makes it easy. We can do a figure 8 or even a triangle by using one of the runway buoys.
This would be a strictly casual /social meet and the racing would be at your own risk. BTW you can't take out any of the buoys as they are monitoring stations, one of our regulars has already tried. We would look at have a 5 m clearance zone around the buoys.
If you are interested let me know and give me your time preference. We would shoot for a late weekday afternoon as it's mayhem on the weekends. We may look at a bit of a handicap system to keep the speed demons on slalom gear under control.
Remember this is strictly fun and my photographer will be on hand to record the event. I may even throw in a stubby of my favourite "Coopers Green' as a prize.
Hi guys,
I'm definitely interested. I spoke to Sick-em, Ka43 and Sam whilst we were at Sandy and we reckon that we could get quite a few interested. Sam even mentioned that he has some buoys from NP that could be used.
Cheers
If I can change my hours over summer to start at 7 and finish at 3 I wouldn't mind joining. I'd guessimate I could be on the water at around 4.30 to 5pm if all went well.
There used to be a similar sort of racing after work from the Illawarra Yacht Club after work on the lake 13 years ago. It was fun around two buoys.
Informal racing was tried at Balmoral last year if I recall correctly. I was going to go but the wind alway was no good on the day it was scheduled.
Good to see the keen ones, I have a feeling that we'll have a few takers.
Not only that we even have sponsors that are keen to support the event.
WindSurfnSnow is offering some real prizes... and that will be in addition to my Coopers green.
Windsurfing Shed has offered some high performance demo gear, so there should be no excuses.
As soon as we have a decent group I'll announce the first event.
I'd give it a go - is there a prize for coming last?
I'm limited to one afternoon a weekday - So for me It'll depend on which day you call it? always happy to get some gybing practice in
.
Ill have a lash Des.
Bit of a hike from the dark side but could possibly be there around the 4pm mark.
Sounds like a lot of fun and as its just informal no aggro.
Would you just pick a day or plan for a sea breeze say on a Wednesday if the forecast was looking sweet??
I'll be fighting ya for that prize if there is one Dave. Fightying in the most friendly and skill (lack there of) based manner of course.
Yep.
I'm in that
Just start with a scratch race, if it's still blowing - have another
but don't tell anyone what their handicap is [}:)]
then allot prizes....
.... a beer would do just fine
You'll probably get quite a few starters from my former club up on the bank there
aka "The RUSTY Club
(ie Retirees, Unemployed, Selfemployed, Tourists,& Yobboes
Ok folks here is what I'm Proposing. We will keep is simple, a figure 8 slalom (as shown below) with 2 laps. Each race will have 3 heats. Depending on Wind and participants energy / enthusiasm we can do a second race.
Someone has just kindly installed a new buoy a little further of the beach and a little higher. So if there is a wind shadow on the one near the beach we can use the new one.
The red dots are the rough position off the buoys. It will be a Grand Prix start, ie. off the beach. This avoids fancy line ups and timing issues.
We will have a handicap system, there will be a time gap between starts for two groups.
Race briefing on the day, but very few rules. Maybe just... no forward loops during the race if there is a competitor within a five meters.
Hi,
Great idea and sounds fun but after the daily trek from the north the earliest I could probably make it is 6....I'm guessing by then even the late finishers will be drunk?!
Cheers Tim....by the way good to meet you on that mad day down at Kurnell!
If the traffics really bad maybe it'd be quicker for me to start at La Perouse sail round to the course, drink the beer and sail back.....does anyone know how long it'd take to get from Coogee to Kyeemah at around 5-5.30pm (by car or any other means....I'm desperate)?
This job thing is really getting in the way
Dont remind me of that mad day at Kurnell Giles!!
The Racing sound like fun....work permitting.
May go out this arvo if anyones up for it???
