West OZ Downwinder Week Is On Again - Bigger than EVER!

It's on again, and it's going to be huge! West OZ Downwind Week is five SUP Events held in the first week of December, each unique and each making the most of the clockwork seabreeze that hits WA in summer.

Kicking off the week with 28km downwinder from Rottnest to Sorrento beach, is of course the legendary event called 'The Doctor' on the 26th November. It's one of the highlights in the Aussie paddling calendar, attracting paddlers from all over the world thanks to the solid swell and unique scenario racing from an island to the mainland.

The best cure for a SUP hangover, which you're sure to have from The Doctor; is a yet another paddle! Ship2Shore is a cruisey one, just 7km from Port Beach to Swanbourne and not technically a race. It's more of a social gathering of paddlers, with all the pros mingling amongst the pack.

Take a few days to recover, and by Wednesday you'll be itching for more - so the Triple SSS is a great way to continue the paddling stoke, with an 11km run from Port Beach to City Beach. Afterwards there's beers at the City Beach Clubhouse!

The pinnacle of West Oz Downwinder Week, is the King of the Cut, a 24km downwind run described by many as the best run in Australia. It's pure downwind heaven, and to make sure of it; event organisers are choosing the best day from a two day window. On the off day - the Half Cut will be held and it's just what you think! A half sized run along the same beach as the King of the Cut, with all proceeds going to Mandurah Sea Rescue.

Registration closes midday on the 30th November, and there's beds for interstate paddlers to crash on thanks to the SUPWA members - click here for more information or to enter Australia's best week in stand up paddling.
