1000 Stand Up Paddlers raise $100,000 for breast cancer

For the fourth year running, Californian based ‘Stand Up For the Cure’ has raised an incredible amount of money to promote the early detection of breast cancer, with 1000 stand up paddlers attending the 2015 event, collecting over $100,000 for the cause.

Leading the charge was a pack of pro’s, Zane Schwietzer, Brennan Rose, Annabel Anderson and Joanne Hamilton-Vale. They, along with 1000 of their fellow paddlers donned a bright pink rashie and did a victory lap around the Newport Beach Lagoon, before everyone got down to business for a 5km ‘Sea of Pink’ Sup Race. Somebody won, but nobody really took notice, because the real winners of the day were those women who the funds will go towards.

Aside from the racing, on the day over 200 participating stand up paddlers were screened for breast cancer and melanoma! Add to that, 1000 other women who will receive free mammograms thanks to the raised money from the event, and it becomes clear that stand up paddlers have made one serious difference!

While all the funds from the event will stay in California, the message is spreading all over the world! Get checked out, find it early and help spread awareness for the early detection of breast cancer!
